my experience in ripping audio CD with dbpoweramp shows even in ultra Secure mode we get different result with different number of passes.the result in 3 different passes :the CD was in good condition but it has little scratch .======================...
Actually, you heard the music off a computer -- into which the CD has been programmed. That's how it works, during the summer.
I “kind of knew” it, or at least suspected it. At this point it is irrelevant “how...

on 1) & 2); by "digital experiments" I meant "get a cheap digital crossover and try different slopes; on 3) & 4): Dave Slagle, Intact Audio, knows a LOT more about transformers than I do, and the nickle autoformers I got from him wo...
I hope I got this right when going through this long thread with LOTS of information. Did you mention for upper-bass cross-overs Elko’s (electrolytic) only to be your preference? If I have it right, any special preference at a...

I was one of the people who bagged on the Altec 811 metal horn in the old thread. I also heard a version of this horn that was supposedly made of tar that had an Altec label on it, and a friend of mine built us a couple of tar copies of the next size...

Ah thanks Romy , I should have spotted the option of filter before vol pot. This may be enough for now. I do have some Dale stepped-attenuators from a previous project if I need to further experiment .Now, if I'm calculating, do you know if the vol p...

Latterly is have been some controversy with new Placette output impedance, it does not look like it is 3R but rather 37R according to my measurement. I need to clear it with Guy. I also desided to address (since the Active Placette is a discrete op-a...

Hi Romy,I have no experience with Pass labs, but have been looking at his old Aleph 3 for some time with interest. Do you know this amp? I believe it is 50W class A and around 800$ typically on audiogon? If you want to spend a lot more my Tom E...

In my idea pass labs high power amplifiers are in under average even in comparison by market average standard.it's sound xa1000 was not good and i think when a company accessed a good market for his products then start to making crap products.in my i...

For home use almost any driver will go lower without burning up.
If you want specs, BMS and B&C will give you the right specs.
And then there is the tone...
I had 2490 play down to 200 hz in a 100 hz horn, of course they would only go up to 1 kHz ...
blah, blah, blah, all that stuff... yes, yes, I was thinking along those lines last night after I posted it, and wondering if effects of hi pass, (not just steep acoustic roll off of driver), in the amp, relieving unwan...

If you insist me to endorse something then this is why I make my Melquiades amplifier publicly available. Romy, I'm not seeking endorsement. Mine is the only endorsement that matters in my system. I have my own end-results in mind. ...

Romy, would you explain / help me better understand how you implemented the HP filter in Melquiades? The schematic shows a series cap after the first tube stage (C3 and C4 in the schematic). I think these are the first-order HP filters, correct?Quest...

A little update on the Milq amp. After sorting some of the problems with the amps transformers (see posts above ) .I now have two mono blocks operational that have about 700 hours ,I'm so glad hour meters were installed .Filament voltage is spot on 6...

The coupling capacitor is a first order high pass filter. I have .68 in there for there for this purpose. Obviously the slope will be shallow, so precision in the value will not be critical....
|
Hi Romy,I am studying your amp build. I see that for your 3 high pass RL circuits you have:Lundahl LL1531 Transformer. How did you connect this transformer so that it could be used as a 9.3H inductor? It appears to have 7 terminals 1H - what did you ...

Very comfortable and very accurate.

Yeah, it was really surprising. The music from your FM was very, very natural and organic (I'm not saying other mediums sounded bad, it was great, but there was more ease and naturalness with FM). Is FM noise working as some kind of dithe...

The precision of those inductors is very much irrelevant – it would be easy to fine-tine the filter with the value of the resistor. There is a bigger fish to fry – the benefits of LR filter.
If we are taking about high-pass filter then there are no ...

OK this is with a digital XO, I'm wondering whether most of you would bother to low pass a 800-10k Radian mid in a 425hz Azurahorn, which hands over to a 10K+ tweeter?I've read that playing too high for a particular horn has some sort of dissadvantag...

If to look at the Melquiades schematic in the channel “A” you will see 78H first order low pass filter.

The low-pass filter in Milq and the low-pass filters generally is great...

Well, this is huge mystery in the reproduction of the few first milliwatt and I very much applaud to what Nelson Pass is trying to do. Being muse a proponent of high sensitively and low power I very much experienced with the fact the high power amps ...
Probably not news, but: http://www.supravox.fr/anglais/haut_parleurs/135_LB.htm Another one that at least looks the part.
Thanks, Paul. This Supravox 135 LB indeed looks like an interring driver for a project of mine. I h...

Guys, I think you are missing the point.
Regardless what technology the DG used the DG’ “Originals” series are in away different as they (allegedly) do use technology to guide sound with those re-masters but rather then use the trained ears of...

...Romys chimney this Xmas?...

Romy, I'll be digging round in my amps tomorrow and intend to install a filter for the red tweeter while there. What should I be aiming for? 7kHz first order from memory, but hoping you can confirm. Such a filter could be achieved just by changing...

The cap was only to block DC and is not required at this position. I think that Tim (the developer) removed it on later versions himself....

OK here is another take of the same section. This time with the Aesthetix Callisto. I set the Tascam's inputs to "bypass" and used the volume controls on the Callisto to attenuate the signal to about the same level as the previous recording...

ahh yes, tapped horn is what you would call "close bottom." It has to be designed around frequency response (which is very narrow band). It isn't a problem getting one to go low enough though, and the quality of sub bass produced, smooth yet dy...
|
I think it might be very interesting to introduce the high-pass filtration for tapped horn and to see how it behaves. It is not only about thermal overload and restriction of excursion. The unloading of none-used bass gener...
