Thanks, Adrian, as I underused the Dave Slagle is autoformer guy. I have no needs for autoformers as I need purely restive load. I fact it is not big deal to find switch, it is complicated to find a ready to go attenuator. Mike Percy care many ...

How about shunting the 1H choke with 180K or so and changing the 20k to 22k5.... that's a rough calc (should redo for standard values)... will keep the x/o point the same and eat up a decibel......

[quote user="ml8"]...but resistor between screen grid and plate, to my hearing, makes sound slightly unnatural, especially in highs. But this may be not true in your case (i didn't try to use this resistor with 6E5P, only with other power tetrodes), s...

Alex, as I wrote I use Z-foils at the primaries of mu SUT's. I'm not sure if colder is the world *I* would use. I'm after immediacy and transparency and this is what they gave me. Also widening tonal discrimination, hearable esp with solo piano. ...

rather discussing a potential of building a tube buffer around 801/10. I'd appreciate your help very much, especially your sound impressions under various conditions. My mail phixphi_AT_gmail.com

Thanks for the reply. My 834 came from the factory without the 220k ohm resistors. I was wondering if I should go ahead and add them while I still have the unit apart. I purchased Caddocks for the repalcements but alas no where to put them without...

BR, I have never used Romy's amp design, but I have used 6C33C SETs with Lowthers. I do not use my Lowthers FR, for reasons that are fully explicated throughout this site, so I don't worry about LF from those drivers. IMO, their best is MF up to tr...

Isn't 330 ohms a little low as a plate load for an ECC83/12AX7 to be running into? 330K ohms perhaps? You often ask what is wrong with a given speaker installation, I thought you might be doing the same here. Keeping us on our toes :)...

I do not know what it is all about as I’m under impression that it you socialize with people on dB-design forum then they will be more responsive about your excitement. I’m not quite sure what the SWING is all about as the guy mentioned and descried ...

After all, I faced a problem where I did not expect it. The MF channel with no wirewound LPAD attenuator sounds more extended but at the same time not all of that extra HF too useful. In fact, what I hear is that with the series resistor Sound ha...

Hello to everyone, am new to the sight. Been reading for a while and decided to mod my 834. I've had the unit since '96, purchased new from the local dealer. I have noticed a few differences from the schematic, the 220K load resistors R10 and R110...

[quote user="floobydust"] Question: the 0.75 ohm resistors in the filament lines on the 2A3. Is it your intent to drive them from a 2.5VAC transformer or a 5.0VAC transformer. Voltage drop considering the 2.5amp filament requirement would result in i...

The hell of it is that you will probably have to peck away at working out your plate and cathode OPs at the same time, since measuring resulting values is a lot easier than actually predicting them. Or, you will probably have to do this if you w...

I calculated the whole circuit and it looks each channel draw a total of about 3mA (could be even somewhat less). The second and third stage works like a whole and it´s very curious because I have seen this design before only in guitar amps in order ...

Romy, That gets you where you want.. good transfer curve, low distortion and about 2.7-watts output. 2A3 should last a long time. One question and one comment:Question: the 0.75 ohm resistors in the filament lines on the 2A3. Is it your in...

Yes, it is imposable to have + 0.4V on the grid, 0.0V at input, with R5 resistor in place and the gas tubes outputting +150V and -150V. My apologies, I meant to say I have minus 4.4v on the grid with the inputs shorted. Then I unshort the ...

But here it is. I made this monoblock fit into less than a square foot. It is tight. I use Hammond iron throughout. Their stuff usually works pretty good for power supplies. I have some photos at my blog. [img]http...
