I was thinking and fantasizing about finishing of my midbass horn. My first idea was to paint it internally with the same color as my cathedral room. Perhaps a lighter grade of paint in the end as the horn goes dark. As the only mouths of the horns w...
There are too many great sounding shiny horns for this to be "generally" true.
Rowuk,
To talk about shine vs. harry horns surface is very difficult as, in my view, people who talk about it do not have data that ...

"If the horn contour is used in a way not complementary to its contour/length, reflections can cause phase/amplitude artifacts." - RowukRobin, as a horn player, you obviously understand the differences between the horn as an instrument and the ...

Jessie, absolutely wonderful. Dima used the very same techniques to build his own MF horn. BTW, I made in past a prototype horn with similar idea that ended up disasters because of my stupid “willingness”. While I was applying plaster I spared ...

HI "Hifiordie" I want to tell the readers here that this guy is seriuos and has some serious talent.Unluckily for him he has been bitten by the same insect that got us and is obsessed by horns, please do listen to Romy and try to balance your life b...

Some brief commentary about immigration from original Vitavox horn to 18-cell horn. I dropped crossover frequency till 640Hz. The new horns are much larger, dipper and finish in a very heavy texture structure. I got approximately 5 decibel higher fre...

Hi Romy,If you have a moment between setting up your gear in new room, can you point me to the thread where you discuss suggested wood horn finishing techniques? I can't find it.I am hopefully on verge of placing order for my first mid-bass horn for ...

The brickish finish does not make me cringe, in fact I do like the idea. I do not feel that it would be some kind of non-truths. There is no truths or non-truths in it. The only a few first feet of the horn will be visible and then it will go to dark...

I am more and more inclining to finish my horn in the textured paint of the color of my room. However, lately I have another “idee fixe”. My listening room has a very pleasant light pattern, something that was here before and something that I added. ...

Hi romy, mine are the 515-G drivers. I will be x-ing over at 600hz to Vitavox S2's (2nd order, yipes!). The S2s are in 320hz LeCleach horns. I was kind of hoping for just a general reply like when you guys look at a pictu...

Jessie, a few comments.
The back chamber mechanism is good. Are you planning to do the same in the midbass horn? Since you most likely will not drive your upperbass all the way down I think that the back chamber mechanism will be more effectiv...

Well, the second Bass Cannon stack is up and in place.I have to say that the room feels better with the second stack up. There is now a symmetry and balance and I feel as though even at 8 each side they do not overly detract from the horn stacks. I...

Hi folks. Who ever listened to Living Voice Vox Olympian Speakers might've liked them as much as I do.
They got a great realism in their projection. Some things are obvious, some even claimed.
Its claimed to use excellent drivers, high quality ...

Romy, it is the UB horn that I need to first tune. Have found an earlier post of yours where you describe your process and will roughly follow it. First thing though is to measure an impedance sweep of the horn sitting in place to get the base line...

Hi BE,we may not be in disagreement at all. Sandpaper finish is not necessarily absorptive. I was more referring to popular HOM-treating methods like foam or using softer materials to build or coat the horn.I still have my doubts about how a rough su...

It was interesting, educational and in way embarrassing. Last night I send the directions to my carpenter to redo the third section in accordance to the original plan where the opening of the sections is more consistent. This morning he took the thir...

"the SG-570BL with S-150 horn mid-low isn't good between 100 or 150 (the horn name;-))"Why will it expect to be good at that range?? The S-150 horn has cutoff frequency of 150Hz. The suggested crossover point is 200Hz from GOTO.There is no doubt th...

Two things I see with that horn. The ribs will have an effect on dispersing internal reflections, positively I'm assuming. The second thing, the ribs are causing a fairly substantial increase in surface area inside the cone, it has the surface area of...
