I figured because I am going to be leaching information off here in my future horn endeavors, I thought I would share where I have been.If you are going to run bare duplexes, you may consider something like these. IMO the pinnacle of duplex enclosure...

I have to admit that I hate the Altec 604 in the same way I hate a few similar drivers other companies made in the same topology. Jean Hiraga made a loudspeaker around Altec 604, I have no idea how it sounds. People who read my site know that I d...

Since I kind of targeted with my YoYo tube to the RE604-class then I am considering to pay once a lot of money and to buy one of those RE604 to see how much YO186 better or worse. (BTW, do not be under impression that YO186 is cheap – it is not still...
I have to admit that I have written a few pieces of writing about my experiences with YO186 but I withhold to post it as I do not know if it might valuable for anybody. It looks like no one use YO186 on West. There are ...

I came today to an illustration that I feel is kind of relevant in depicture of what I feel about audio people at the shows: the sheep. It looks at the image there is no fence around the sheep but there is one narrow ope...

Hi,Mr. Hiraga said (and it's also in the promo-flyer) that he uses modified GreatPlainsAudio coaxial, although the one in the speakers that were playing music looked more like original Altec 604 (because of the multicell horn). So, I guess it's not M...

Funny for in my DSET case it is mostly about a primitive equalization in MF. Well, almost.
I god a few other versions of 2A3, one more 604 and a few 45. I in fact like the 45s, even though with my attenuator wide open I have ~2dB less gain the...
After a few month of living with YO186 I think I know everything about this tube. I do not use the YO186 all time and I think the explanation why I do not use it all time would well describe what YO186 is and how I use...

I completely agree with what you said. To tell you the truth I was already very satisfied with sound, but I just wanted to make that powerful triode amplifier - I really don't need it. But it's nice to have it. As you know in this hobby it's not so m...

KM,
Yes, it turned out that the B4/B5 sockets are not a problem at all. I do not like the original sockets with springy contacts and I like the contemporary sockets that hold the pins with full micro-tubes.
Regarding the YO186’s price - this is dif...

The name of the post I took from the 32th chapter of M. Bulgakov’s Master and Margarita, so from there will be the epigraph for this post:
“Gods, my gods! How sad the earth is at evening! How mysterious are the fogs over the swamps! …So...

Romy I have not herd so much doulble talk in a long time. Some of the best sounding drivers on the market in the last 60 years, were for sound reinforcement. I do believe, in a 2 way speaker system crossed over at 800hz with a good wood horn i wil...

After fantasizing about an infinite baffle, I calculated what kind of structure I'd have to build (in lieu of an attic/crawlspace) and this is an obvious no-go. A more practical idea is a sealed box with two parallel ScanSpeaks per channel. This ...

Romy,Well, in the course of a weekend I typically listen to a lot of music, but there are a few favorite CDs that I like to use when trying to evaluate things:Piano Music of Chopin, Brahms & Prokofiev, Lincoln Mayorga, Sheffield Lab SL505The Lein...

Here is a very good article about the development tube types in the 1920 and the birth of my Telefunken RE-604

Then, here is very cool later but still old advertising from Telefu...

The Jean-Michel Le Cléac'h’s horns or as I call them La-Horns get a lot of popularity among people who are trying to build horns loaded systems. But as anything else in audio the Morons hear any noise and they has no idea how to associate the noi...

I want to kiss this damn thing! I agree with Romy that hearing a good FM redefines what a (true) high-end is. For the past 5 days I've been listening for live FM streams of baroque concerts from Gdansk http://www.actushumanus.com/

Paul, not sure if you are familiar with the combo. There is nothing one can adjust apart from VTF, VTA and P2S. Even with the latter I'm bound by the EMT930 arm hole. Smart collar design by my business partner gave me some +/-1.8mm ...

Well, when we are talking about Cogent we need clearly differentiate two things: the Cogent’s drivers and the Cogent’s installation. The problem is that since Cogent’s drivers are something so called “compression drivers” then their performance might...

A bit of the background. Before acquiring the PP, the whole system had been moved from it's previous location in Gdansk to a new one in Warsaw. New, busy city, new apartment, new electricity. Straight after the move and connected to the new house...
I'd like to point out that Fostex 500 MKII is very much not sharp and artificial sounding. If anything it's an opposite -little too syrupy , soft and round so it blends with cone mid better than beryllium tweeter.
