I have no experiences or knowledge on this dependency but I have seen people who were trying to say that it exists. Perhaps is does exists but I feel that it exists only in the world of bad designs. Like the noisy TT could be “fixed” with arm with better decoupling with it’s base. I think that a properly made TT, that does not propagate vibrations to tonearm’s base should make a tonearm do not care what TT it sits on.
I generally do not advise on purchasing decisions but it you read my site then you know that I am biased in tonearms. I sincerely feel that if a person has more then one tonearm then one of them should be SME 3009/12… it might vary with needles you use but as far as I concern (and it is not particular smart) I consider that if a cartridge does not sound right in “pushed” 3012 then it was a wrongly made cartridge.
