Hi Domidaw ! The first thing that we need to find out - is a REAL tube plate current at the moment when the R22 resistor starts smoking . I mean not a calculations that might be based on some faulty conclusions but a real current that an ammeter does...
Hi Dima,Do you know if this is similar to the approach Tim de Paravicini took in his direct-coupled amp placed inside a Quad? I'm currently using Quad speakers (I gave up on the horn approach through sheer frustration) and i...

Yes , I told Romy about this funny idea , which is quite simple of course - to make a simple SRPP stage on special hi-voltage tubes , powered with high voltage supply ( 10000 V , for example ) and drive the electrostat panel directly from the output ...
I mean the driver from 14Hz to 150HZ gas absolutely linear impedance as it has no active load. I look at all of it and felt so tiered and I walked out if it. I think in the new room the horn is shooting into the wide open s...

+++++++Pretend that we have a good mass platter and this platter in addition it it’s mass has a large circular chamber near the outside skirt. The chamber or the channel is 50% filled with some kind of heavy liquid.++++++++Good idea , Roma ...

Hi , Wojtek !Of course , I have some ideas how to modify this tuner , but before doing it you need to check if it operates correctly ! I mean tubes health , power supply operation , DC voltages on testpoints , LC tanks alignment , etc . You see ...

Do you mean a battery bias , Brian ? We didn't try it because of 1 V bias voltage - I don't know if the battery with this voltage does exist . I know only 1,5 V and 1,2 V cells ...... maybe using some chemical reactions we can obtain 1 V or little le...

Brian , I never tried SSG cap in phonostage . SSG has a good reputation ..... but I'd prefer teflon for coupling . Mica caps , even good ones like SSG , seems too "bright" for me , but teflon sound pretty neutral ....

Hi all ! I thought about this resistor bias idea that Chris proposed , and found some some problems here . One of them discovered Chris himself - it is a big serial resistor in the grid chain , and it can cause not only HF rolloff ( it isn't a big pr...
I would live aside the technical aspect of the Kostas’s demo above and would like to point out other thing. I find this classical trio playing their rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” was very illustrative. Su...

Hi Jim ! You wrote about "hysteresis" in the 6C33C curves - it seems to be a very interesting point ! Maybe Romy told you about one fault of this kind of tubes - some old ones have a bad tendency of "thermal breakdown" . I mean positive thermal ...

Yes , the idea of time delay machine is completely clear now . I made some experiments with analog and digital parts of the circuit , ewerything OK , and I need to assemble all the parts together , but now I am finishing the new hybrid class A amp - ...

Grid leak bias is not reliable itself . Grid current is very low and grid resistor is very big , the circuit become very sensitive to all destabilizing factors - capacitor leak , humidity , temperature . And when we apply a big input signal to t...

Hi Jack , it's very interesting !
When I was younger -35 years ago-, I have observed the glowing of a NEW VR tube (it was a 0C2) for few hours (ok, I had nothing more interesting to do then..) and seen that at low currents,...

Hi Jack ,Thank you for your very educational info ! It looks like you are right , and your tubes are rebranded SG13P .... Maybe a big stock of those tubes were exported , and you know them better than we do :-)And another question . You wrote :...
Hi, these ones are Russian military stock: see that no mica elements have been used in their construction, like the US Bendix Red Bank tubes (used in US ICBMs of the '50's-'60's). Old Soviet ICBM spare stock ?
It's v...

Hi all !
Hi Romy,
Could you explain a little more about the amp? If I understand you correctly it is a 1 tube stage with solid state (Mosfet or Bipolar??) output. If it is Mosfet then it is likely to be running w...

BTW, I think Dima has a Real name for his amp. I hope he would show up in here and would let us know it… The good thing should be referred by own name… It really deserves it.
OK , being inspired by Romy's Mel...

I juts got home, put a record to play and suddenly discovered that my SPU has it’s cantilever bent 90 degree and then even twisted vertically. It was perfectly fine last night!!! I have no idea what kind forced what appl...

Of course , if you need low pass , the chamber won't help .... but in seems to be that there are no good solution in this case . Too narrow bandwidth , and it will sound like a barrel :-) . Dima...

Hello , Roma ! I think that you can use only a back chamber with decreased size , and a serial capacitor . I think that there are no ways besides ... Dima...

Ha-ha , Roma , it is very good ! ;-) I will make a good copper plate with this name and attach it to my phonostage ....... ;-) Dima...
