I do not think that it is a mater of the output tube. Yes, the 300B is crappy tube but it is too easy to blame the under-performing tube. I would say that in the situation that Scott is experiencing the problem is not with his amplifier but in the id...

Ok, let dive a little bit further into my examination of the subject of Lamm ML3
What is important is to undusted that my view less targets the Lamm ML3 but rather it targets the ML3 as a representative of entire class of amplifiers. When I to...
Hm, interesting. The problem might be in ADC, I/O cared, Recorder or DAC. When you do the experiment do you record the file? If so then you might plug ADC directly into DAC. Might your problem be with cloaking? I do know wh...

Ok, how to start. First of all we have to understand that out subject of attention will be a region between approximately 80Hz and 500Hz or something that shape the fundamentals of the “melody range” within your playback. Search my site I have writte...

It seems like most audio "auditioning" is of the hopeful sort, where we can in the best cases "hear something" that attracts us, and we can perhaps use experience to try to "intuit" whether we might be able to "extract" and use the particular compone...

I can see objections to using paralleled tubes to achieve higher power where the channel has a single driver, but surely where you have multiple drivers differences between the drivers themselves would render any disadvantage of using (say) one tube ...
So next week I will broaden my playback experience by adding my new 90wpc PP mastadon, and Romy's approved Lamm ML-2, in addition to my current DRD-300B amps. And as a personal favor to the readers at ...

Jessie,
A few hints. If you are moving from Parsifal/Encore and LammM1.1 world into the world of SETs and Horn then do not be in hurry to commit yourself and do not create to yourself artificial addictions.
When I talk about artificial addictions I...

Romy,
Thanks for the hints.
I was anticipating the limitations imposed by of a pair of SET amps such as the ML2s driving such a system (4 or 5 drivers per side, down to 40Hz), but was planning to accept those limitations for the moment... takin...

I also find SET bass to be the overall best I have heard - at its best, and this has been, as you observe, when the amp is well within its comfort zone. And this seems to remain true even when Z out and speaker load "matching" are har...

Hi,I keep for many years a set of speakers, JBL 2225h, JBL 2105h and JBL 2403h and I'd like to build a reflex compact speaker with a good low response (see the picture 1:10).
- 40 Hz - 1000/1200 Hz: JBL 2225h in vented box

The rumors are that Warner has bought licenses of all Svetlanov's recordings and they are reissuing them now. So far the Myaskovsky set is available only in Europe

I mean who recorded ALL of them at the SAME level of performing quality? A used set that I fished recently suggest that I might found a noble contestant.
It is box set of 3 CD (DG 435 744 -2) that has all 5 concertos performed by Wilhel...

So freaking true!Add to these the self-neutralizing Fear of Bad Recordings and you about have it covered, I think.Needless to say, I am convinced that catagories beyond #4 are just rumors of the order of El Dorado.Paul S...

Here is an interesting article by Dmitry Nizhegorodov about his experiences to use 6C33C. (I do not know who Dmitry is) I disagree with Dmitry’s amplifier. Also, I very much disagree with his vision that an amplifier is juts a machinery where voltage...

Dear Romy, thank you so very much for mentioning our amplifier to your excellent forum. Indeed, during the last 5-6 years there are a lot of manufacturers “from non traditional hi-fi manufacturing countries”. In particular, in poor old Greece we ...

Well, as I understand there is no truly GM70 vs. 6C33C context yet (sound in the respectfully equitable load) from you and it will be very interesting to hear from you when you feel that you are ready to say something. As I understand they are the sa...
I do not really believe in the ultimate ability of SET amplifiers to drive loudspeakers, at least any loudspeakers.
Well - I've heard a couple of such amplifiers, made by Mr.Juri Makarov. They did have more o...

Romy, of course I do not know if what you are describing is anything like what I hear from SETs, but that was my first thought when I read the post, the way it is so soothing - up to a point.I do not understand the relationship between the tube, the ...

For whatever stupid reasons the DSETs (Dedicated Single Ended Amplifier) are not as popular among audio people as they SHOULD be and this imperfection I am trying to attack.
So, if you use SET for whoever propose then it fine but if you e...

I have not read this book (the wood effect) and if you have shopping link please sent it to me.I am not sure but It seems even amplifier speaker connection is important for sound. In past I have inverted the signal phase in my DAC and also inverted sp...

Nope, I am not familiar with sound or applications of this tube. It is indirect heated beam tetrode – why would it be any different from the whole family of beam tetrodes? From my perspective it might be interesting for ULF DSET solution as it has a...

Reading the Yamamoto link you posted, it actually says the amp is an SET stereo amp, not PP. You may have been confused by the schematic shown in the EML link, that showed a single channel of an IT-coupled PP.
I certainly have not heard any AD-1 ...

judging from your draving, they appear to be bipolar operating tweeters and not dipole. While I generally do favour the horn approach above all the others, sometimes I do wish the whole reproduction would be less "dry" and bringing in some wide beamin...
