It has nothing to do with thread but with the fact, the facts that I am experienced. I have no exposure or familiarity with Yoshi Sugano’a cartridges but I know one guy who very much likes Koetsu and use then all his live. In fact he encouraged m...

I have lived with the Koetsu Onyx Platinum also and I agree. I did not really enjoy it very much in my system no matter what I did. However, honestly, when I first heard Koetsu many years ago (it was a Rosewood Pro IV), I was really drawn...

I appreciate your response, Adrian. I never have see any Koetsu user who did not try to convince me that Koetsu’s Sound is “beyond believe” and what you say actually does make sense to me. I even had a guy who used similar TT (Micro 2000) with Onyx a...

It is not exactly a non sequitor to say today's Koetsu is a myth. Say a restaurant's owner changed from Italian to Seafood. Maybe you expected fettucine carbonara, but instead you got fish and chips. However, maybe you are in the mo...

This is one example of the very successful marketing Hypes and in Reality this cartridge is sonically not better than those for 1k (at best)
I did compare it with a Lyra Helikon...

Koetsu are crap and it is sad that some ognorant or criminal people crated so much hype about it. Might be in past it was better, as it was proposed above by somebody in this thread, but I doubt as I know people who drooled about Koetsu 20 years back...
Koetsu are crap …
Ok, this is the short form but I thought, I should write a little bit more.. :-)Most write, they do LIKE this and don't LIKE that...I think, this is nonsense. I would reduce it to right or wrong.I l...

My Koetsu Onyx has gone. I was packing my stuff and was wondering why do I need to keep my Koetsu Onyx? I do not like it and everyone keep telling me that it is a wonderful cartridge. After years of sitting in box I figured out that it would be a goo...

I never tried the Onyx. I had an Urushi, then a Jade, and now a Coralstone. No I didn't buy any of them in the US so I paid a lot less than the crazy retail prices people throw around. I only know one person personally who did try an Onyx and he d...

Hi Romy,Yes I would love to hear the same segment from your analog setup for comparison. I think it would be very interesting even though there are so many variables that it probably doesn't tell me much in an absolute sense. I don't really disagre...

I have a different theory about Koetsu. I think they did make a name for themselves with the Rosewood like you say, but and then kept fiddling and experimenting with different materials. The lacquer coating on the Urushi, for example, then the...

The Adrian’s quote about being stunned and disappointed can’t better express my view on the subject. I admit that I am driven by disappointed and in a way anger for the horrendous sound I got from my Koetsu Onyx Platinum. However, it was not a an...

I think that the perception of the Onyx depends on the rest of one's stereo system and the other components one compares it to.When I say the Koetsu is one of the top cartridges in the world, I would say this about most modern audiophile cartridges, ...
Agreed. I only wish I could hear the new Platinum for myself... :-) Meanwhile I'll be looking for a used Shelter 901.
Do yourself a favor and look for components which aren't that colored. When you don't want, because yo...

The whole presentation of sound is very different with your and my file. Your file is very lush sounding. It is very pleasant but a bit too euphoric for THIS music. My file is much more dynamic (if comes from my transformer) and in the way this dynam...
OK, I finally have my sample re-recorded in a format matching your file. Details are the same as before. (I set the Tascam inputs to "bypass" and used the Callisto to attenuate the signal. Levels are the same.) The only chan...
I know at least 3-4 other people who very much like me bough in the Koetsu hype and bought the top of the line Koetsu needles. All of them hate it. The point that I try to make is that if the vintage Koetsu were so good th...

Antonio, I would like to point out that your replied to my post about the 103M cartridge. The 103 and 103M are totally different animals , even contraction-wise. In fact it is shame that they named them as they were the similar model number. Perform...

Hi Romy,I miss-understood. I did not realize you were able to play my file in "natural 96K". Since I am not able to play your file in "natural 88.2" I needed to make another recording before I can really compare yours to mine since my CD player ups...
