Hi Romy,I am calculating crossover scenarios for the HF Channel (Channel F) and am hoping that you can remember a reasoning for using a 20K LPad instead of a larger value such as 30K or even 50K? As the larger impedance is used the value of the capa...

The precision of those inductors is very much irrelevant – it would be easy to fine-tine the filter with the value of the resistor. There is a bigger fish to fry – the benefits of LR filter.
If we are taking about high-pass filter then there are no ...

David got rid of transformer and replaced it with a DC transformer, claiming that it is “better”.
And I should point out that not only is there still a transformer in the circuit, but many other ...

I don't know the 6336, but EL34 used correctly will sound like its driver tube, not to mention the comparative ease of PP scheming. Sure, you need the voltage; but this to me only underscores the low ESR angle. And who needs an inductor/transformer...
Based on previous trials, I have avoided putting resistors on my new ribbons so far. Finding decent caps and coils has been enough of a problem already, since everything comes through so clearly. Maybe a variable indu...

Hi Romy,I am studying your amp build. I see that for your 3 high pass RL circuits you have:Lundahl LL1531 Transformer. How did you connect this transformer so that it could be used as a 9.3H inductor? It appears to have 7 terminals 1H - what did you ...
|
One opf my amps buzzed when connected to the Pure Power but it was due to the fact that the manufacturer forgot to laquer the lams on an inductor.Have run bot my and Romy's units up to 100%, and even shut down Romy's unit overdriving it with as Crown...

OK, it took for a while but at this point I have nailed down all design aspects of the new 6-channels Super Milq, and particularly its input stage. I have listen and evaluated all solutions that will be implemented in there; selected, appraised and o...

I think I found a good configuration for de-emphasis. The air caps will not work as there is nothing to amplify the capacitance. RC filer with cap to ground is good but I would like to have the entire de-emphasis with no capacitor at all, it will be ...

LT Spice will also provide some of this operational modeling. I have not used Leap, but inputting variable states in LT Spice will provide you with all of the linear state information you could want. Naturally music has no linear states.....Putting a...

#3 reminds me of the HF-only naked ribbon, which seems to be the only exception, able to do this through a series cap.If you have the Mercury SR2-9013 35mm master Dorati/LSO Nutcracker, that might be a treat (if you can still do the Nutcrac...

Snubbers are more effective when there is no inductor - just a diode/capacitor rectification. That's when they become useful. To snub out the ringing caused by leakage inductance. Keeps the "buzz" from coupling to other areas of the...

And there is no substitute for listening to it, no matter how careful the "calculations". Anyway, I don't have it "figured out", that's for sure. Some guys figure in and use the inductor DCR in lieu of resistors (apropos), which seems clev...

Bud, excellent footnote, and just the sort of thing I always find out about the hard way! Still, the effing C hinge also "adjusts" according to R, while the shape of the curve changes as the L changes relative to the changing C...Sure, by all means ...

I did not follow up on the issues relating to improved performance on small smps when used on filament and DAC power supplies. Here goes:The first is that the source impedance of this type of supply is very small e.g. less than one ohm. The sp...

Depending on the UseCase, many things can influence the sound. Rectifiers, snubbers, impedance, corner frequency, speed, an inductor in series, regulation, isolation from the mains grid all are parameters to consider.I do not know of any really serio...

I still say you will get the same "effects" if you current source a low voltage supply. Or, easier, put an inductor in series with the windings after your filter cap.The way I look at it is that the voice coil is the primary of a transformer; the cor...
|
Hello chaps,Firstly, something I forgot before was that the high impedance coil will have more turns... so the DCR etc will be stepped down as seen by the voice coil. My guess is that overall it will still provide slightly less damping, due to imperf...
Herman, I completely do not understand what you ask. The physical aligning of magnets is absolutely irrelevant. The crossover slopes are irrelevant.
OK.
Why would you need to do switching b...

The thing is, other people have been here before, and between them they have already gotten results that would take most of us at least a few steps closer to verisimilitude. Sorry to be such a whore, but it just seems reasonable to make use of readil...

i do it and i did it, but as a newcomer you have to sort out all the infos...not that easy!
(This is normal, I have written about it many times. Those large bass drivers have a lot of inductance in Voice Coil, the inductan...

Yes, Jim, thanks. It is what I thought. I have some “pure” ringing at 440V line as well. After consulting with 5 creditable people I desided to discard the problem. Since the choke on it’s another side gives a perfect sinusoid with no spikes or disto...

Another rushed post, thinking about Romy's "miles of wire" remark, germane to the giant Duelund caps.I have thought about this sort of stuff for some time, and I have come to the point where I tend to think of all parts as partly obstructive (sorry.....

Good advice, to be sure.I have chosen the most "neutral", "tape-like" MC I have found, but of course it remains a phono cartridge/transducer... Meanwhile, I just checked VTF on a hunch and was annoyed to find that at some point&n...

Eventually the Second Milq is converted to work with new room and new midbass horn. Not I have the complete Melquiades/Macondo setup that is more or less optimized to work in my need room. The Sound is very pleasant and not is the fun time starts. No...
You had that glorious sound with the 40 year old caps in the B2's and the Tannoy crossovers. Do you really want to move away from what they produced in your system. A good way of testing new vs. old caps would be to replace the tan...

I do not know what is meant by “close bottom” or “open bottomless”-- please expound?I do not know of importance of enemys death to this topic. There is a long thread in the subwoofer section of "devil audio" about tapped horns. John mentioned gettin...

the sad truth was the space, the finite funds, and the available bms pucks! the sad truth also, i suppose, the lack of available, and sensitive horn users to bounce off of!i could probably see what your dislike of the bms stems from-- i tried to...

My first answer would be "3". But then I think some more...Is "A" really a shunt? Where is the power dissipated? Certainly not in the capacitor. The signal is burned off (converted to heat) in the series element! In circ...
