The rain was gashing and I went close the left opened deck doors from last evening. Suddenly, totally out of blue, and idea come to me – why do not use the idea of Carlson Enclosure in midbass horn? I did not see/hear this application before and I have no idea how it might sound. The idea sounds to me an elegant, take a look.  The horn starts from basement and run up to the floor as an average exponential horn. Above the floor we have a conical horn (easy to make) of the larger diameter with Carlson cutout of hyperbolic profile (I drew it straight on my sketch for simplify). The diameter of the opening under the floor is equal to the diameter of the horn above floor minus the Carlson cutout. Then, as the Carlson cutout exponential increase the total expansion of mouth takes place. The thing shall be easy to make and sine it would be ceiling-loaded it might be ¼ or 1/8 size.  I find that it might be very interesting idea, any predictions? Mendeleev saw the idea that chemical elements are organized in periodic table  according to their atomic mass, so would my Rain Wake-Up Horn be equally proven to be working? 05-08-2010 Post does not mapped to Knowledge Tree Paul S San Diego, California, USA Posts 2,656 Joined on 10-12-2006 Post #: 2 Post ID: 13449 Reply to: 13447 All My Children fiogf49gjkf0d It seems to me that any number of LF systems might be made to "work", once a few general questions have been addressed squarely and answered honestly, in order to have some significant empirical data to start with and direct progress, based on largely pre-determined results .  My "memories" of the Karlson are just that, old and with flies; but I "remember" they had what we considered to be "articulate" bass, back in the day.  Today, I wonder if that means, rising response, aka, upper bass. About a decade ago, I spent a couple of years and over $10k to patent an idea I woke up with.  Patent, si; income, no.  To this day, I am still getting solicitations from marketers trying to determine if I am still willing to spend yet more on it. Inspiration, like sex, is a very powerful drug.  Then, the ideas born of it have lives of their own. Best regards, Paul S

It does ocour as elegent solution on first looks but do you wnat a broard band resonator coupled to the end of your midbass horn? This aside it does look nice way to "introduce" horn into room. Where it occours elgent to me is in maturation. Occours like would be very elegent way to implement "maturation" to midbass horn. Very elegnet indeed. Would the exponential horns mouth be at the floor? and the conical/Karlson part purely an extension? or is the theoretical mouth of the horn designed to be somewher half way up the conical part or the top? i.e - Is the karlson a way of matching impedence of the driver to impedience of room? if so, is horn not more superior way of doing this and there for no need for Karlso. I dont know. maybe others do??? Side note Romy, you may hve just come up with solution to your 60hz rotunda Helmhertz. Put a Karlson entry to rotunda and broard band the resonence! Interesting! Albert
