Orphean horns / BMS drivers
hi romy

i am listening now abought 2 weeks my orphean horns. when they arrived, i first connect them to my electronic crossover, and they sound horny, very bad. after i connect them to the own crossover, sound changed right away. now, that i heard most of my cd's, i must say that i am very satisfied with it's sound. all frequencies from 220hz all the way up to 20khz sounds perfect. very natural, no horn sound at all, fast, open, clean, and a stereo/3d image that is just amazing, i never heard a horn like this before. phase is in line, as its a one point source.  so i very disagree that a horn is not capable to do well at a wide range. high frequencies sound sweet, not agressive at all. bert from bd design did a well job, and i am shure that the modification he did on the driver, eliminate all negative characteristics of the non modified bms driver.
this horn is a dream come true.

regards angelo

these are quite an interesting design
I can't figure how Bert can mannage to successfully overcome the fact that the tweeter is sooo deep.
I'm also curious about something else. I read in a recent post of yours that you have heard the mr. wolf's ultimates and that you consider that they are the best thing you've heard. Um, in a way i'd like to ask you to compare that with the Orphean. This is a bad idea of course as i've never heard any oris and i can only guess what a goto driver system sounds like -designed by alon wolf or otherwise- but can you give an idea of the timeline between your purchase of the orphean and your auditioning of the ultimate? The most important question of course is music can you adress that?
On a sperate note, would you be willing to dismantle the driver and show some pictures?

the magico ultimo are not the best i heard
hi Dominic i made myself the same question regarding the high frequencies in the orphean horn. the reason is probably because this horn has no compression, and the horn length is not so deep, and the exit diameter is 2 inch, quit big. If you read my post again, you will see that my best listening experience was not the 5way magico ultimo , but avantgardes trio. Life likeness and dynamics are unmached. I was at CES this year, and i heard the Duos, and they were in my opinion far beyond everything else i heard there in this aspect. They may not have the delicacy, and not be able to image each instrument in such a perfect way as the magicos, but they reproduce a orchestra, a rock band the right size, not too small, as the magicos do. but there are other aspects to be considered, like the room acoustics etc. Certainly the Avantgardes can be improoved a lot. As i know that Romy had the duos, and the trios, i beleive his implementation should sound now much better than the Avantgardes. Soon i will have a Vitavox S2, and will combine it with a Coral h100 tweeter. Than i can compare with the orpheans. Magico does not use Goto drivers, but Ale's and TAD. I bought the orpheans in november, and heard the ultimos in january.at this site, you will have a picture of the bms open : http://www.assistanceaudio.com/02_bms.html
