For some time it looks to me like "the industry" has been sliding into a sort of Audio Dark Age. However, "the industry" continues to use more or less the same approach to promoting their stuff that they've always used. Certainly, despite the insane TTs, analog has fallen way off the pace, and digital has reared up and spread out to where it's pretty much ubiquitous, even in "analog systems". Along with the digital treatments of Sound to digital manipulation, the gear to deliver that treated sound has also changed, and with the change the audiophiles' expectations seem to have changed. It has long been the case that idiotic "music" has been used to "promote hi-fi equipment". and now the idiotic music has been stripped and bleached or "kodachromed" to oblivion. I do not personally feel beaten down by any of this, and I am always glad to hear something worth listening to. I do pay less and less attention to "the outside world". But I also keep one ear open most of the time.
