Changing the way I record my FM in new season.

Filing up one more hard drive I have to tell that if you have more than 4 gigabyte of recording then it become annoying…

So, I kind of changed my ways how I record my FM. I record in 88K/24 only if it live broadcast and only by WGBH. All the rest broadcast and the WGBH live-to-tape broadcast I record at 44K/24 with Pacific in Master Mode. It  is kind of cool to have the files smaller. I would like to have 64K/24 bit but it does not exist….

New York Sound on WGBH
fiogf49gjkf0d
I am curious how the Lindberg piece came across WGBH last night.
Here in Chicago WFMT had the live feed. The results in my home were poor at best.  It seemed my system was completely overwhelmed by what Magnus the Great offered.  I just don't know where the problem was.  My tuner, my system, the broadcast, the recording?New York times loved the work.  What to me sounded like Hornets through a lose wire,  Mr Tommasini apparently describes as   "quick bursts of strangely ominous fiddle-faddle".Are the same sound-engineers involved at Avery Fisher Hall as at the Met?I am ready to choose a program for recording  on my Mac.  Not sure yet with what software to proceed.Mats

Complain!

We did not have it in FM, it was a TV feed.  I did not listen the Magnus Lindberg overture and I did not particularly care about the "Symphonie Fantastique". I was interested in the Messiaen’s songs with Renée Fleming and it was what I was watching and listening – it was OK but nothing special. If you have problem with FM sound then you need provide feedback to your WFMT. If you do not bitch to them then they do not know what they are sending out. It sounds ridicules and you think they monitor it but I have seen that many times that it was not the case. If you do not complain then they would not know about the problem.

Via Negativa

So I wrote one of the big DJ/producer guys at WFMT, complaining about the horrible sound last night. He wrote right back saying I was absolutely right, the Phil broadcast had sounded awful.Turns out FMT had made a last minute decision to take the PBS feed, which was in mono, and "had the fidelity of an Edison Cylinder" ( probably an insult to the cylinders ).What they broadcasted was not an FMT production of the Phil.  He thanked me for my vigilance, agreed to pass on my appraisal,   and promised that they would not likely make the same mistake again. So, chalk one up to the complainers!Mats

Can you help me with debugging?
fiogf49gjkf0d
I have an issuer that I do not how to resolve. I will not explain details but what I need is your feedback. Below is a short fragmant in 88/24 of Chopin, Piano Concerto No. 2 with Evgeny Kissin at piano; and Levine leads BSO. This is from this week broadcast. What I need you to do ONLY if you DO NOT listed 24 bit files via headphones – you must listen it on your full playback. So, download the file. Play it. Tell me me about the center image, the image of piano.

Thanks.

Quite a lot of this piano is in the left speaker. It reaches to the middle of the stage. It seems to me quite disconnected from the rest of the orchestra.Mats
