I'm sorry but all I hear is 1 hour and 30 minutes sales pitch. Can you timestamp the place in the video?Best,Kris...

PQ is a very good storyteller, but he does not have the vocabulary to say anything else besides 'this is better' or 'this sounds terrible'.His shtick is exotic materials and iconoclasm which is supposed to translate into "our products are better".But...

This is hardly a novel concept. The Thales tonearm and a few others have addressed this issue. All else being equal, the tangential approach would be superior, but the added mechanical complexity of marrying a pivot with a linear tracking system migh...
Good start Dan!The JBL phenolic 2" driver is 2482.I would lower the crossover point as far as you dare, 300Hz or so.Now the 2226 will do what they are pretty good at.Later you will likely want to filter the 2445 around 2k.A 600Hz h...

I can't really recommend anything but a method.I suggest you approach companies or sellers and get them to agree with a home trial . This is simply the best approach since you actually get to live with the thing, rather than settle for some half bake...

To me the big green drivers in the midbass horn look like old Siemens Klangfilm or Telefunken (or other German manufacturer) 10 inch units. Maybe 12 inch... I had a pair of 8 inch Klangfilm once and they do have interesting tone across a couple of oc...

I can guarantee that a pair of ATC 15" woofers with the fragile foam surround and some unobtanium Siemens Klangfilm 8" units are even more alluring.Kris...

Hi Paul,I used to say that these class D amps presented music wrapped in a thin sheet of plastic film, but your description is more adequate. Ruined cleanly and quietly indeed.Kris...

Many persons I have come across on the web propose that PC based playback of ripped CDs is vastly superior to regular CD playback. Often this happens in discussions of "vinyl vs. cd". (Potentially fruitful discussion but...) However, I have never hea...
I did not know that Lynn Olson and Earl Geddes involved in Levinson’s operation. With all disagreement with those individuals I thought that they are smarter than to deal with Mark Levinson. I hope they did not give him an...

By virtue of the internet facilitated 'brain merging' technique; the world has now witnessed a speaker born of the joined brain wave efforts of 97,3% of the registered users of DIYaudio.com. Behold! : http://www.danielhertz.com/products/m1http://www....

Thank you Joaco for your reply. I was hoping tubes could ameliorate the brutal sound many CDP exhibit. I was at an audio fair recently and heard a Tentlab player with the Philips CD Pro mech and tube output that had a kind of gentle sound very unlike...

I am hoping someone will comment on the tube driven output stage topology vs. the conventional solid state output solution. Is it possible to squeeze more out of the 16/44 format with a tubeoutput? The phrase is kind of problematic, maybe "overcome t...

This article is really a bridge too far. It reads like bad pornography and makes me feel not only depressed but also kind of violated. The 6buffoon editor is one step away from turning his journal into one of those car magazines for young adult males ...
Vasyachkin, if this is still relevant:I've tried dipole bass and dipole mids with horns mid/highs in my system. If anything, dipole works the WORST for the bass and here's why:It does not load the room with bass pressure (or ...
Thanks paul for well thought reply. Two things need clarifiication, i am not new to the subject and am a constant and avid reader.Secondly my preference for music is hobby for electronics and pleasure of listening through appli...
These speakers were not open baffle. I would agree with Mani's description of their sound, except for the 'edge' bit. That depended on where you were sitting/standing.
Then they would be baffle extenders which are not with...

I second that. Please tell us about the design decisions and topologies that made this presentation possible. I guess it has very much to do with room and placement in room.KindlyKris...
has anybody tried a horn speaker with a dipole bass section ?
Well, I must say that I have tried dipole bass in a few configurations, including dipole bass plus horn, however I think this is completely immaterial to th...

I had a look at the pic of your speaker just now - may I ask about the reasoning that went in to choosing a diffraction type horn? Also, your midrange looks like an open baffle type. What kind of back wave/diffraction management do you use? Kris...
Kris,thanks. Here's what I have:>>There is a
caveat: The combined input impedance of the power amps must be at least
10 times the output impedance of the preamp. Otherwise the load will
kill the sound of your playback...
Good link, Kris. What is missing in the link is the RL filters. The RC Low-pass filters are fine as the capacitors are not in the band-pass mode. It is arguable what would be better – a subtractive shunting cap or a few mi...

This is what you need to know - these are the equations you need for a passive line level filter:http://www.t-linespeakers.org/tech/filters/passiveHLxo.htmlYou also need to obtain the input impedance of the power amps in order to calculate RC values....

Yes, I missed that detail. The room seems to continue to the right... so all bets are off.BTW. I noticed a Stereo Lab 1000Hz tractrix horn acting as support for the Goto expo. horn - kind of a pity because those Stereo Lab horn are very nicely made h...

I am a big room buffoon. I like to see and hear a room and I like to walk around and "test" it. Sounds dumb but sometimes I can sit in a room and dream about what could be done to it in terms of Sound. It started around the age of 20 so at the time I...

Yes, I did have a look at the photo series. Many of these folk are serious about their amplifiers, or at least put a lot of energy into them. Too bad they did not invest equal amount of effort into their speakers. Open baffle has become very popular ...

They paid attention to time-alignment, good - but the tweeters location near a large reflective surface might be problematic. It looks like a 1kHz tractrix horn to me (maybe 800Hz). I have one though it's from Stereo Lab....
"This topology was invented by Steen Duelund"Ah-hm, ring radiators where not invented or even re-invented by the Steen Duelund dude, just copied. JBL used the priciple 40 years prior to that in: 2402-2403-2404-2405 and Fostex have b...

Hello Marc Henry,I am curious as to why you picked the 4540 driver for HF. I have no experience with this unit but it is interesting since the design claims to be of the "ring-radiator" type. This topology was invented by Steen Duelund for use in reg...
