I am not a person who understands a lot about tuners. I understand a lot about sound and in the tuner world I am just a user of the things. If I need comprehension of the things I ask questions, I have very limited ability to extrapolate the sound of...
Honestly for now, the character of the tuner is unobtrusive enough that I notice mostly the problems I have with the preamplifier and the electricity. However, I would be interested about what you had thought at this point to be ...

Yep, the TU-X1 is just wonderful. Find someone to align it, have a good antenna, good attenuator (it is hard to use it without one) and headphones to set the attenuator right – it is all that might ever need from FM. BTW, are you planning to record a...

Hello All;Any idea where I can get an antenna connection for an REL tuner. It appears to be a clear plastic connector with holes in one end and set screws to secure the strands of a 300 ohm dipole antenna with another end that plugs into the back of ...

A couple months back I sent to Dima a link with a wonderful collection of audio articles from first part of the 20s century:

In next couple days, talking with Dima he asked me: “Roma, what is REL Company a...

One of the ways to drag the REL tuner in the realm of civilized sound is to get rid of any crap that it has after its detector. One of the first things is to replace the 60 years old Germanium diodes with contemporary ultra fast and ultra low capacit...

The ABC Classical FM is just marvels. I love it.

Can you guys who live in Australia comment on the local FM quality of ABC Classical broadcasts? I listen it in US over internet, taking advantage of 15 hours differenc...

The Rohde & Schwarz EU-6201 tuner was made for German Ultrakurzwellen (ultra short waves or FM) Broadcast Network. The idea was to have a chain of wide-bandwidth composite signal receivers that feed re-transmitters. I made an attempt to accommoda...

I set up one of my TU-X1 to work from own front end and from Schwarz via high quality relay. It very convenient – push a button and the front-end switched. Everything is well shielded, there are no noises and everything is very nice. What however sur...

Juts cough 2 hours ago a “live” broadcast of the air with Violinist Jennifer Koh plays Bach partitas.

I think it is enough to hear it to get what I mean about the worth of FM.
You have to be able to play 88/24 format and t...

Of course I haven't compared it with the Sansui, which appears to be a very serious machine but the Leak sounds more natural to me than the other highly regarded tuners available over here (in the UK) such as the various Naim models, the Audiola...

Thanks for the tips Guy...a friend of mine knows this local guy who has a stack of radios, including troughlines, and he should be able to supply me with a nicely aligned one. In the meantime, I will give classic fm another shot...Funny what yo...

case. My TU-X1 has nigh output, no different than all of my other front ends.
If you look at the schematics of the TU-X1 then you mig...

Hi again Romy. I have never tried many of the 'super tuners' such as the Sansui TU-X1, Accuphase T-1100, Yamaha CT-7000 etc so I have no idea how this newer BW Broadcast unit would compare with them. Luckily the BBC still broadcast some very good qua...
if you have good reception in your area, the sherwood will be fine. but the sound is where these things excel, really. as they are so dirt-cheap, and even pretty-cheap when completely refurb'd, you owe it to yourself to a...

You have to have guts (or stupidity) to introduce new FM tuners nowadays but as you understand this fact is very welcomes at my site. So, it comes: http://47labs.co.jp/4730.htmlI have no idea what it is and what is inside. Yoshi told me that FM was ...
Still the key is to treat the cables, all cables that go into tuner and into the processors. Do not forget that you have a perfect loop: tuner goes to preamp, as in the same time tuner goes to A/D-DAW-D/A- preamp. So, you...
The alignment, tuning and changes will be done very soon and then the sound of the both: virgin Sansui TU-X1 and the updated will be compared. I am very interested to hear the result.
I got my second Experimental S...

Sure the music is too different to judge sound, the fragments were more my personal impression of the differenses between the tuners. The new TU-X1 is slightly sharper in musical terms. It does not make it a bad tuner, in fact I feel it is better in ...

I have no idea where this saga with REL leads me. Even though I do have substantial sonic improvement over the original REL version I still do not know if I like this tuner all together. The 50 years all tube tuner with 17 tubes is very freaky thing....
