I do not care about all of Nilsson Pass amps; I feel that all the same and all are very sub-qualified. A few years back Mr. Pass went for his low-powered SS single-ended amps and they might be more interesting. I do not have them and I never seen a...

Hi Romy,On my to-do list is a single ended version of the F5... essentially just the upper or lower half of the schematic, with a load resistor to opposite power rail (or perhaps a low DCR SE transformer) replacing the complementary portion.Alas it's...

Well, this is huge mystery in the reproduction of the few first milliwatt and I very much applaud to what Nelson Pass is trying to do. Being muse a proponent of high sensitively and low power I very much experienced with the fact the high power amps ...
The difference soundwise in this half range 180hz and up horn module between the Leak TL12.1 amps and the First watt F5 clone was big, mainly the tonal balance is very different with the midrange sounding thin. Highs w...

I think low power ss design is the only way we can make ss to sound good. in my idea all high power ss design i heard had no emotion in their sound in comparison by good SET designs like AN UK Ankoru.the first SS design that make me happy in comparis...

The Other End of the Single End: Modern Horns Done With Flare An Interview With Dr. Bruce Edgarby Dave Glackin, printed in POSITIVE FEEDBACK. 1996
Dave Glackin interviewed Dr. Bruce Edgar in his home, prior to the 1996 WCES. A follow-up on the speak...

I think this post need to have an epigrapher:
“We knew what we wanted to hear, and so we developped, and developped, and developped... In hundreds of small and bigger steps. Over thirty years. Till we were "there" where we always wanted ...

Hello Gera,First thing I would do is get rid of the active Xover, in my experience they mud everything up. preamps are very important and this is like a double preamp with a lot of gain stages. For bass you can maybe use it. I use a separate Xover...

Your Typical Acoustical Suspension-type Loudspeaker enclosure witch has less then 90 db at 1 watt does not belong with a horn system that starts at 110db at 1 watt, even when you ad more then 1 driver, it is still way to far off to even consider usin...

Some background first... My first initial foray into buying some decent speakers took me onto the path of Quad 57's, they had their limitation that are well documented i.e. sweet spot, not the most extended treble and not a speaker for a party.....

Ok, let dive a little bit further into my examination of the subject of Lamm ML3
What is important is to undusted that my view less targets the Lamm ML3 but rather it targets the ML3 as a representative of entire class of amplifiers. When I to...

I would agree that the Lowther is not hard to beat but the question is where and in whose mind does this competition exist? Is the Lowther, Manger, or other full range single driver in competition with different multi-driver approaches, other single ...

I own a pair of the Total VictoryIII that pair nicely with my room due to the inside firing woofer (tames my room nodes). The marketing of the products uses tremendous hyperbole (words like 'breakthrough' appear often with regard to speakers, c...

Romy consider that the engineers who did your Altecs in their worst nightmare could not imagine their lovely cinema speakers would be used with solid state amplifier which badly distorts on LOW power levels. It has 100 crappy watts and the first watt...

Mainly because of my young daughter I have been listening to mostly solid state amps, I have enjoyed 'Digital DoMain's' B1-a VFET, and am now listening to a German 'Audioprojeckte' CA10, 10 watt class A design, ( I will post a link later as their sit...
I have to admit thigh that I have had in my room the First Watt amp….
Do you mean the F3? How did it sound with the Macondo?Incidentally, I gather a higher power version of the F3 is in the works, and the existing d...

Dear Romy, after a lot of delays I finally found someone technical to build Melquiades. I'm afraid that I may disturb you a lot with questions.Anyhow the first question is:for some of resistors no value for wattage is mentioned like R4,R5,R6...R9,R10...

Hello, would it be possible for us to see the diagrams and schematics behind the Zarathustra II in the same spirit as the Melquiades was conceived, noting that the best of ideas are formed with the purest of sentiments?
It is Dima’s and my stro...

I have just taken out of my system a First Watt F5 clone Tim Rawson amp, It was substituted by a Telefunken PP amp with 6AQ5 tubes. Let me to explain.
My system consists of 6 way horn loaded speakers. I have a round Tactrix...

Chris, I have no experience with good sounding SS amplifier that might drive high sensitive horns. I also have no expertise to build such an amp. From what I trued before I have learned that in order to sound more or less acceptable the SS should run...

I was thinking about what I previously wrote while driving today... thinking about the way people "see" the function of a driver... and about resonant properties of various materials used for speaker cones... I think it is more interesting than compa...

Hi Romy, I recently heard the smallest Cessaro and while I felt that the bass was not adequate for long term satisfaction it was also not a total disaster. From the midbass on up; however, the speaker is simply superb and one of the very best h...

well fine, my X350.5 does 50 watt class A, and of course in push-pull. I use it with 120 watt max rated 3 way speakers of about 87 dB efficiency. You can see on the 350.5's centre instrument dial if you go out of class A. If I go out, I usually fear...

For the past few months, I’ve been looking for a solution to a problem – how to recreate through speakers the same sound that I get through headphones. Why did I embark on this quest? Well although I’m quite happy with my headphones, I miss being...

This will be yet another log on building a maconalds inspired speaker conglomerates. So far what I gather is I need to first sort out a upperbass/mid frequency combination before I dive into the rest of the details.I too, will try to provide pretty sk...

Mats, believe me, I'd love to get off the frickin' grid altogether. But if I'm looking at >20 car batteries just for the K&K phono stage, then how many angels will fit on the head of a pin? Ironically, the K&K also uses JFETs.....

Hi Romy,Your the first person that I have seen that seems to have actually made PP tube amps work with compression horn drivers. It has been my experience that PP amps don't like the low watt operating range. I supose it all is a matter o...
