I was sitting in my fireplace room; eating my freshly cooked oyster mushrooms and listening a master dub of Munch and BSO take on Damnation De Faust. No matter how primitive the setup was in this room the experience was enjoyable even sound was annoy...

Actually I just went to the site and I can conform that the cretin removed form my posts some of my explanations of the Model 19’s shortcomings but explicitly kept my replies (edited!!!) to the idiots who suggested that I am not familiar with Altec b...

Hi!You are probably familiar with this one... It's the closest to a multi-cell tweeter (well, maybe because it actually IS a multi-cell tweeter, but only 6 cells) I've ever seen...picture of Altec 3000hRegards,Anders Boman...

If there is any info in this or another post about why the S2 is so much better than the Altec 288c please direct me. If not what makes the S2 drivers so different than a 288C? (I am talking about 288'cs that the 24 ohm diaphragms have been...

Really, this is too funny!I actually thought that everyone who's seriously concerned with the matter knows that everything about a horn affects the sound, including the material the horn is made from. Hell, that's one of the reasons I gave...

I had quite a number emails from different people who picked 515G or AK15X drivers and would like to build a midbass horn from 60-80Hz to ~500Hz. I played a lot with different 515 (B, E, D, A) and with different AK15X but I never went for the right h...

HI, Dietmar from Germany uses a diy multicellular horn for his JBL 077-tweeter http://chaudioroom.com/Photos/CH1505%20Dietmar-6m.jpg By the way, i´m searching construction plans of Altec 1505, 805 or 1005 for a complete DIY project. Any suggestions? ...

Can I have some opinions on a potential mid-bass driver for my Altec 515s, as pictured in the attachement? What are the obvious or potential problems I should address?see attached photo: 120 Hz - @800 Hz.For the Altec 515 such a horn should be ...

Hi romy, mine are the 515-G drivers. I will be x-ing over at 600hz to Vitavox S2's (2nd order, yipes!). The S2s are in 320hz LeCleach horns. I was kind of hoping for just a general reply like when you guys look at a pictu...

Of course i am referring only to the horn part of a 210-type enclosure. Below the horn cutoff, perhaps around 70hz for the 210, the remainder is filled in with a wooly bass-reflex peak, which gives these boxes their characteristic fluffy, indistinct,...

Hi. First time here. So this is where all the horn lovers go......My wife calls this my "man-cave"....I look at it as my "home stereo". This photo is a couple months old. Just add a freshly re-c...

Mark,
It is hard to say. I owned T90A sometimes in 2001-2002. At that time I was going through the drivers like crazy and T90A was just one of them. Looking from now I do not think that I gave to many drivers a chance as I did not “work” them trying...

I have to admit that I hate the Altec 604 in the same way I hate a few similar drivers other companies made in the same topology. Jean Hiraga made a loudspeaker around Altec 604, I have no idea how it sounds. People who read my site know that I d...
A mid-bass horn for my Altec 515-8G drivers operating from 100-600hz
Rony, I think your wish to have mid-bass horn with 515G is a bit faulty. A mid-bass horn for 515G shall be 50-600 Hz. Let me to explain. T...

Yesterday a local hi-fi guy invited me to listen his new speaker. He picked up Altec Model 19 - I am known not to be a big fun of those speakers but they have own sound in the scale of non-demanding, off-the-shelf monitors. Upon expecting the speaker...

Romy,
Did the Model 19's have foam around the mouth of the 811b horns when you listened to them? Apparently the original foam normally deteriorates with age. I have noticed that there is a noticeable reduction of horn coloration (hon...

OK, I have the Altec 19 delivered in my second un-useful living room. I plan to do nothing with them now and will play with them sometime on winter or if somebody will come with pre-payment. Altec 19 has one (ONLY ONE) sonic positive quality (bes...

Brad You are correct the model 19 does have the 802-g, but all of the 802 series drivers 802-b,c,d all outperform the 802-g. I have had everyone of them and have done real world tests with them with every type of horn and the plastic phase plug i...

Msaudio, I also had all 1” Altec drivers and learned that what Altec does in those drivers it very good to sound reinforce Sarah Palin speeches during in her Midwest redneck rallies but they are hardly acceptable for serious music reproduction. Brad ...
Romy I have not herd so much doulble talk in a long time. Some of the best sounding drivers on the market in the last 60 years, were for sound reinforcement.
It is not my view. I wrote about it many times before...

Interesting experience - thanks for sharing.Just yesterday I posted about this topic:http://goodsoundclub.com/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?postID=13892#13892I will first use a 6dB/octave crossover, but may need to go to a higher order slope instead. I'm cro...

Last night I was cleaning/setting the room where the hated Altec 19 were sitting and I decided play them for a while. I used a few different amps. To drive Altec 19, especially in it’s default configuration, always was a subject of debates and disag...

Romy,
I have also noticed a difference in the response of my Altec 416A's with various amplifiers. My best rated amplifier the Bryston B60 was the worst and I could not listen to the speakers. I have been using a ch...

Romy,
I'm also very interested in how you deal with a replacement for the 811b horn. I have not seen another hobbyist who has posted a suitable alternative with measurements. Its possible that the Azura horn recommended in the th...

I wonder whether an Altec 416 in a sealed enclosure plus transconductance amplifier would be the better solution for most people/circumstances....

No, the speakers like Altec 19 have time miss-aligned drivers. The majority of 3-4 way horn speakers with oken/jensn as a bass that you might see in internet also very seldom time-aligned but it is excusable as the DIY-audio people are mostly Morons ...
