You have said that there are no "good" 6N6Ps; but are some physically constructed better than others?
Nope it was not what I said. I said the all 6N6P are equal, at least among those that I have seen and there are no rea...

Nope, I am not a big friend of OTL amps generally… BTW, I have seen (did not heard) one Japanese amp that use 64 x 6C19P tubes. For whatever reasons Russians consider that 6C19P as very good sounding tube - the younger sister of 6C33C. It was not my ...
I should mention that with all the wonderful things it does, the L2 (preamp) definitely deserves a fresh pair of 12AX3s and a 6C19P. (I have not changed them since starting work on the horns... all tubes are exactly one ye...

Over the course of the past year I was very slowly experimenting to the sound of my headphone amp. I know much more about it sound then I knew last year and I learned a lot more how to get “different” sound from it. The more amps ages and the more I ...

Ok, the Headphone “Baby Melquiades” protect is over. Well, kind of over as there are some issues still are hanging in there.
A brief summary. The initial idea was to use the Melquiades’ input stage to drive headphones. Unfortunately it did not...

Thanks, Chris.
Dima I discussed today many imaginable scenarios. Initially we thought drive a single 6C19P from MF channel of super Milq. But it has some negative consequences… Eventually we decided (it is not final decision but the final with 90% ...

I took today the “Little Amp” at my client’s site and was listening it today during the operation time. I detected something very interesting behavior.
The 6C19P that I put into the “Little Amp” are well-selected, equal gain, no microphonics and we...
I wonder if this will resemble your final results
Thanks, James, it was fun….
Actually….it does look like I am on something with this Baby Melquiades project.
First of all it is not Baby Melquiades anymore as it be...

Thanks, jk
I have given a lot of thoughts to this topic lately and have a number of conversations with various people about the subject. A friend of mine from Europe, who is currently at fitness protection program, suggested that:

> The second that Dima proposed was to run 6C19P as default shunt regulator.I was thinking about 6S45P as a shunt. With its ~45mA/V of gm it would ideallygive the impedance of ~25 Ohms. 6S19P has low gm of 7.5, giving in the ideal situationimpedan...
Now I am wondering: If we go to such trouble to have transformers wound for our particular applications, maybe we could just as well be winding our narrow band voice coils and welding them to our/their own output tubes.[/qu...
So sometimes i just wonder why do you need 6C33C at all, with your high-sensitive speakers.
This thread is a derivation of the “5 Channel Version of Melquiades” thread:

Morricab,
I do not know the “truth” and what I said are pure my speculations based upon what I hear and what I measure.
Yes, Lamm drivers at 310mA quite hard but do not forget that his objectives, besides everything, were to get out of his SET max ...
Thanks for the comments. I believe that a preamp giving the same kind of benefits of Melquiades and being able to deliver them with any power amp and speakers would be something truly great. I know it won't be the same than t...

OK, I have conceptualized what I need for the tweeter amp. It will be MilqEZ – the same Milq one with 6C19P at output. I will use the Super Melquiades power supplies but the HF channels will host own last caps of the filters and own bias of the both ...
Thanks for your response! I have never tried grounding the cathode in any of my tube projects. Even my amp output stages have been mostly cathode biased. But I am going to try grounded cathodes (and the +/- input stage sup...

Paul, there is a number of inaccuracies in your post.
Lots has been written already about tube replacement, but I want to mention my recent experience when replacing the 6C33C output tubes (V2). I had the previous tubes in...
I have a phono stage from the Korean company Silvaweld that uses the 5651 tube in the power supply as a voltage reference. It also is using a Russian 6C19Pi tube along with EF86 pentode as the high voltage regulator. ...

As I promised, I am informing about the fate of the Baby Melquiades project. The Baby Melquiades was armed for few days with new 60H transformer. The result was not positive. It sounded OK but it was not even close to the Melquiades sound. I wa...

Ok, so I did the test (no explosions, flames, or smoke!).
Results with the shorting plugs in place :
Just like you and Paul said, only upon sticking my head (my ear really) right up inside the MF horns was I able to hear just the slightest hiss.....

MochaMike, yes you are correct it would not be the “softness” but rather”liquidity”. Still what you are taking is applicable for the paper cone 4 to 15" drivers not compression drivers. Who knows how the compression drivers will react.
To the rest ...
The 6E5P is an interesting device (I did some research after you dropped the "tetrode" hint and bought a few :-)), but the bias scheme with the OA2's is still incomprehensible to me.
Ok, I will try to explain.
It seems the 6e5p is driving the transformer directly. I've used various versions of even simple mosfet followers to good effect at the headphone level, but never considered using a speaker level transformer. Did you and D...

It turned out that I made my Melquiadenisation with 6C33C. Not practically because it is good or bad tube. The choose of 6C33C was partially accidental: in the beginning I was trying to make an amp that would be able to work in multi-app configuratio...

In my post above I have mention that Srajan is in a way a brainless parrot that repeats the heard and has no ability of desire to understand what was the noise about. His comments that 6E5P and E810F are “close electrical” is a good indication how it...
The Melquiades give me inspiration to build this 6C33C amplifier. It's on a stereo chassis that has few unique features - Vacuum tube rectifier separately for Input/Driver and Output tubes. - Regulator using the same tube ...
