Guys upload all fine now
fiogf49gjkf0d
Guy,
Many thanks, you fixed whatever was wrong.  I still don't know why I lost half of the 3rd movement part 1, but it is all there now.  Part 2 is also complete to the last note, along with a considerable interlude of coughing and fidgeting before the 4th movement begins; I can see why you might have been a little hasty in editing that out.

It is indeed an amazing ride.

Rgds,
JJ

Bruckner 7

Here's the B7 with Esa Pekka Salonen & the Philharmonia.  The filesharing site was being very strict in not allowing uploads >100MB but some careful editing means that these files can be run sequentially without interrupting any music.

Actually I was listening the very same 8th probably 6-7 times since we return back from UK. It is truly wonderful interpretation with the last two moments being absolutely phenomenal.

BTW, JJ, would you be so kind to change your email at the site registration as it bonuses back. If you do not want to get the notification then you can click the “Disable Email” button atop of each thread.

B7 Files mixedup
fiogf49gjkf0d
Thanks Guy for taking the time on the B7 here as it would be worth a quick listen. Note that the 1st movement (pt.1, pt.2, pt.3) all include the same 3rd movement file by error. The 4th movement pt.2 link does not work.

The same phenomenal Bruckner 8.
fiogf49gjkf0d
As almost a month passed but I still ca not go over some aspects of the Bruckner 8 that was played at the Proms. I would like to do something specials for you guys. Among all different versions of the Proms recording I picked the one that I feel would be the best and created a small MP3 file of the last movement, the magnificent “Feierlich, nicht schnell”.

http://www.mediafire.com/?4i46ckkk7acvfke

Listen that and learn how Bruckner shall be performed. Discard some manor VPO bloopers – instead get the majesty of that music and discover/learn how Bruckner MIGH be played.

Among many of my favorite moment at this recording there is the one what the orchestra begin to develop the final closing, it is ~ at 20.15m. The first violins run this gorges vibrating mosaic, ala the adagio from 7th symphony, and then the horn introduce that phenomenal thyme of releasing of sins with consequential whole orchestral build up. The VPO did just phenomenal in there and the setting is very close to the Master and Margarita what Worland realize Pontius Pilate's and he walk the moonlight to his Christ. I have been listening probably 2-3 times a day that Bruckner 8 since return from London.

Bruckner 5 from Holland
fiogf49gjkf0d
It seems every conductor has his/her own interpretation/feel of Bruckner.
Here is one from last sunday, Bruckner 5.

http://radio.omroep.nl/u/201446/?silverlight=

The concert begins about 19 mins. into the program, don't be too much annoyed by the mp3-compression which eats up a great deal of the dynamic range...

With kind regards,  rogier

I want more of it.
fiogf49gjkf0d
Thanks, rogier this is very nice of you to post it.  So, it is Concertgebouw conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, live. Very interesting. I will be listening it tomorrow.

Does this station has the page that future all Concertgebouw concerts? I found this one:

http://www.radio4.nl/webradio.html

... but for whatever reasons Google does not translate it.

BTW, the mp3-compression usually does not eat up dynamic range. mp3-compression is digital compression and it is not dynamic compression. The mp3 still might be dynamically compressed of cause but it is not hereditary for digital compression.

Same concert. More bits
fiogf49gjkf0d

Here is the same concert only instead of 192kBit it is in 250kBs

http://concerthuis.radio4.nl/concert/3841/Zondagmiddagconcert_Koninklijk_Concertgebouw_o.l.v._Nicolaus_Harnoncourt

Even the bandwidth the feed is higher but we do not know what was the source for the files and how the file were cooked for the feeds. I presume that the 250kBs feed will be better, but this is just a presumption…

Stream @ 256 kbps
fiogf49gjkf0d
Thanks for the link, this is even higher than the 192 kbps which is already the max for most stations.
Only the the concerts which are aired via Radio 4 you will find on this site.
Concerthuis (something  like concert home) keeps the concerts online for 3 months from the airing-date, this is enough time to decide if interesting enough to download (via the IE5-content-trick..).
Hopefully there will be more Bruckner....

With kind regards, rogier

Does anybody flying in to Boston from UK soon?
fiogf49gjkf0d

Hey, Brits,

I need to bring to US one small object but US custom has tendency to destroy it. It is nothing  contraband, illegal or anything like that. So, I wonder if anyone would be soon flying from UK to any airport around Boston or to New England who would be OK to care my package in airplane’s hand care?

Please, please, please, the British folks, make sure that you have download, record or whatever you do the last night Bruckner 8 performance. Leave the hornblende Bach plaing in the first part alone and preserve that Brucker. Lorin Maazel is gineus and the interpretation that interpretation that he showed last night was each high magnitude that it instantly in my mind elevated him to the most able Brucker conductors alave.  Discard occasional bad play of VPO. The performance last nitght was much much deeper in the meaning. Lucky we who were there as it was truly life time opportunity to hear Bruckner 8 as it was. Lorin Maazel must  to take Viana Philarmonic  to one of those German churches and to live to as a recording.

I was listening yesterday and today the Lorin Maazel performance of Bruckner 8 from the Proms two weeks ago. I was listening it again and the more I am listening the more I am shocked how stunning smart Maazel plays Bruckner. Do not run in a store and buy Maazel’s Bruckner. Whatever he did with Bruckner before was not good. During the proms it was a complete transformation and listening the recording I have no idea where from all that phenomenal brilliance came to Lorin Maazel.

Vienna Philharmonic did not good job at all, particularly during the first two movements. Perhaps after Musikverein they sat in the horrible Royal Albert Hall and were not able to hear each other. I do not know what was going on with them. If they play well, as they perfectly able to play then this performance from the Proms would be literally the panicle immortal performance, entering the realm of Matacic 7 or Giulini 9.  The bad play of Vienna will be most likely an assurance that the recording of the event never will be released – an incredible shame as I would very much would like to have it.
Again, me greatest compliment to Lorin Maazel – what a play!!!

I have been announced everywhere that Lorin Maazel died yesterday.

Interesting that in the end of his live he conducted a lot of Bruckner and we am lucky that we caught one in London. Here are some of his interviews....

and of cause what might be more beautiful and solemn then the adagio from M5 for the occasion ...
