Ronny, you can’t ask questions like this. Janine Jansen is from an assemblage today young violinist that all create a lot of buzz and they all have very impressive playing techniques. (When I said “young violinist” I mean “not dead yet”).  Unfortunately nowadays it is enough to make media buzz, sell CDs and book concerts hall. Still, they all can play. HOW they play from the perspective of interpretive originally is totally different subject. Most of them very average in team of personally of play and have very little to say despite the tremendous technical capacity to speak.  Saying that I have to admit the many of them at different events threw very good performances, as some of them phenomenal performances. The whole point to attend a live concert that you never know what happen.

Generally if a soloist was able to book a decent orchestra and decent concern hall then it is more or less assurance that she/he has a rudimental familiarity with the music and the instrument.  Everything further is up to you listening intercourse. Look who is conducting and what the orchestra. Look what the program for the concert and if you have any personal interest in the music played. If you do not know the girls then read a few of her interviews  to get what  she thinks, although in most of the cases it will not be the girl taking but her PR peoples butter up publicity around her. Look if your local radio will broadcast the concert. Most good stations “warm up” the community before the soloist arrival, playing the soloist’ recordings a few days ahead – that is a good way to assess own interests.

In the end if you care about the played music then any live event with the piece that you care is worth attention. I will extend very high probability that Ms. Jansen concert will be more fun then evening spent reading about horns and drivers at my site… :-)

Yes, she is nice, with very good tone but the more important that she looks like does not have that “victorious attitude” that I find so disgusting in the play of contemporary talented players. She also has a very idiosyncratic manner to collapse sound into very sexy almost non-rhythmical poses: very effective but a bit ware thin in a long ran.

Still, during a live concert it might be absolutely anything. Do not forgers hat for the players of that caliber to play concerts is an ordinary routine. It is like you are a teacher in a school - you might give a phenomenally inspiriting lesson one day and other day you might be bored like hell.  Probably if she bring an interning program and play with better then BSO orchestra then I would go.  BTW, if you like Beethoven violin concerto then try another very talented young lady - Viktoria Mullova.  She even recorded it with Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique. The all played period instruments and demonstrated very good and balance Beethoven.
