Vasily Petrenko, the conductor the makes a lot of waves in Europe will lead BSO with all Russian program:  Stravinsky's Scherzo fantastique,  Rachmaninoff's The Isle of the Dead,  Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10

Since James Levine departure by medical reasons two weeks back the BSO played BEAUTIFULLY (!!!) last week under the baton of Shi-Yeon Sung

Today, I will be recording the live BSO Broadcast at 1.30 and if BSO will show under Vasily Petrenko the play level that they showed the last week then I will be coming to the concert on Saturday. I do feel that BSO in today format is a good orchestra for the Shostakovich No. 10, let see how it will turn up.

Glad I'm home ill

Fortuitously did not attend work today due to illness.  Fortuitous in that I was able to hear the entire live broadcast of BSO led by the 33 year old conductor Vasliy Petrenko.  I enjoyed the entire program.  The Rachmaninoff "Isle of the dead" was my favorite of all on the program.  The Shostakovich 10th symphony was quite good.  I got the feeling that the BSO responded well to Petrenko.  I would have liked to have been in attendance.  Symphony Hall is a 10 minute walk from my home.  The same performance will be repeated tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m.  If I could just get rid of this blasted head cold & sore throat I would like to go.  There was quite a bit of coughing and throat clearing in the auditorium as the performance proceeded.  Evidence of the weather change here in Boston.

Yep, it was a very good concert.  The Stravinsky's Scherzo was pretty good. The BSO sounded very nice and Petrenko left a good impressions. The Petrenko’s interview the Ron Della Chiesa’s introduction of Shostakovich was very interesting.  If it was not the Shostakovich 10 then I might go tomorrow to the concert as well.
