Zenph released their new album: Re-performance of Rachmaninoff

Sure I bought it was listing it yesterday. What can I say – yes it is a very good piano but it very poor played piano. The play is boring beyond believe. The link above has a bunch of the links with exuberant comments but in fact this CD is a perfect proves that Zenph does something very wrong. The notes are here but there is no means or peruse of play it is kind of self-purpose sounds that popup and burst just for sake of own existence. If it was played by a young pianist then I would say that s/he is a Moron that has no business to be an artist and if you have nothing to express then just shut up and become a stock broker.

Anyhow, this is a bad disk and I feel very sorry that Joshua Bell and others have endorsed this Re-performance.

It does not sound as good as the old Vorsetzers to me, and it particularly suffers in comparison to the DuoArt reproductions done by Everest on Harold Powell's 1929 Steinway (also a "D", AFAIK).  Sure, the 1909 is nice, but it sounds a little tight the way they are using it.

But maybe that's what we get when we try to keep "perfect time" with DSP?

The first thing that hit me on listening to Zenph's MP3 file is the way the "time" it portrays is only "one dimensional", if you know what I mean.  It's as if the notes have no "options" but they are being "forced" into place by some means that has no "concept" of what it's doing.

How's that for a stretch?

It's clean, all right, but I have recordings of Rachmaninof taken from old wax cylinders that sound better to me.
