Thanks paul for well thought reply. Two things need clarifiication, i am not new to the subject and am a constant and avid reader.Secondly my preference for music is hobby for electronics and pleasure of listening through application of mind and know...
around 135-150mA if you use a single cathode
Hey, I never thought of this. You can run 1/2 the tube at a time! This actually puts it within the limits of the VacuTrace. I can test each side separately.jh...

Hi there every one.A brief about system. Marantz transport---Acustic Arts DAC II-----Krell HRC preamp-----Krell FPB 600 class A amp---B&W 802.Previously i had a pair of carry 805 SET amps which drived Klipsch KLF 30 any how i was getting a good ...

Well, I would say that “something is wrong” as what you report it is not how it shall be. I had my doubts about the rational to use 6C33C in direct heating coupling but the “danger” in direct coupling uselessly coming from the plate of the driver...

The concept of self-testing boot cycle is nice one but it for sure could not be done during the amp booting. Some tubes do need to warm up and reach the cruse temperature in order to be tested, some do not. Some tunes (like 6C33C) in fact is best to...

I haven't tried to build a Melquiades but I understand tube electronics decently, so I'd like to comment on this problem. The main question is why Domidaw's output tube is apparently carrying 3 to 4 times as much plate current as it should be. It is p...

Tube traps are mistakably designed as they tend to deal with a very erroneous assertion that it is possible to feel a listening room with some kind of confused and random bass and then to correct the things with...

At the risk of overloading you... Here are a couple of quick computer drawings showing a version made from 2 inch steel tube... Material cost would be very low. jd*...

I am playing with the tube traps and at this point I have a dual feeling about them. They are absolutely phenomenal HF absorbents, in fact much more powerful than any other tools I have heard. They suck HF from the room with a force of a good co...

I always was kind of afraid of it. Any single zillion years tube I see is “NOS in box”, “measured as new” or “never work”. So, I wonder where those uses up old tubes are gone? Do people trash them or juts sell them “as n...
Romy,The normal bias for the Golden Grid tube for 200V Plate at 200ma is about 70V-80V for the good tubes, the bad tube read 0ma at this bias, when drop to -30V it start reading some current, but can't get to 150-200ma current ...

Ok, I do not know what it was: was it DHT, was it 300B, was it some other specifics of this given amp or whatever… but those two aspects that I named: intentional density of colors and randomness of pace are something that I would like to exercise in...

Was talking with various audio people about the 6C33C I was amazed that people are so clueless about this tube. The people are so filled with some foolish prejudges and faulty notions about 6C33C that I deseeded to put together a brief “6C33C user ma...

I don't suppose the input tube was a 437A?And perhaps (at that price) silver trannies? I have never never knowingly heard silver trannies (apart from my Ortofon step-up), and I wonder why anyone would pay that much for them when amorphous ...

Hi Jim,
Romy may not have noticed that the tubes are mounted to the circuit board below the top cover and not at the surface, so the driver in particular looks shorter than it really is.
Will the final appearance be similar to the prototype in th...

I ordered today from them the 6C33C dumpers and spoke with someone in there. Forthrightly speaking it sounded kind of ugly when the guy on the phone insisted to call the pads as the “anti-vibration instruments”. BTW, I did ask him directly if there i...

Hi Romy,
Well, I see in the photos what look like the newer Herbie's Hal-Os with the titanium rings on 2 of the 6C33Cs. Have you made any observation of the sonic effect of these things yet?
Rgs,

In the thread GM70 vs. 6C33C two year back I have written that the only tube that I would like to trey in Milq besides 6C33C would be YO-186.
I am not sure that it might be a right direction or even interesting direction but I picked yesterday a par...

Okay, I think I understand.... and thanks for the link on the YO-186... if I can ever locate some of these I'll be sure to grab some (hmmm, a trip to Russia perhaps). As tubes get very hot internally, there were some procedures for trying to eliminat...

Each new idea is an opportunity or a pain to be involved into a new round of custom work. With all my considerations regarding engaging the DHT I more and more biased to have YO186 as the leading candidate, in fact I almost decided to do it. Fr...

It is only if you chose to employ tube rectification. Many people claim that tube rectification affects sound greatly in this or that way and they are right, it does. However, it does only because the circuit is designed to be affected by recti...

For better or for worse, I also tend to think of the "tube buffer" as a gimmick. I wonder if one of our readers has an idea, what are the benefits of the tubes used in this case? Why not a discrete version of the op amp, or just a decent modern op a...

I have not tried different loads for the different driver magnets but i also have not played with fix magnets for a will.one thing is changing load to the tube really only makes a big difference in the bass regions on a mid driver the load may chang...
Would YO 186 be appropriate to use in "fundamental" chanel? Over narrower band width, to color, "spice," "flavor" more?
It would depend how the Fundamentals Channel is used. The YO186 has phenomenal lower MF, n...

One of my YO186 have developed a dark eye on it’s getter. Even the tube still measures fine and sound fine but I wonder what make some of those tubes to get dart spat of the getter gloss. I have seen it before and do not have any association between ...

Last night I was listening Zubin Mehta’s recording of Bruckner’s Symphony No.9. It was his first recoding from 1966 with Vienna. I am not a big fun of this performance all together but it has spectacular first movement. It played superbly slow and s...

Romy,
I have good confidence that it was the tubes and not the circuit. I have checked the cathode driver that bias the 6C33C and there was not any problem. Sure if the cathode bias failed, the 6C33C current will shoot way up and burned up the fuse...

Just in time. After about 5 hrs of music on the preamp , I received today the 3 golden grid tube. Looking with a magnifying glass, I could not determined if it is gold wire. Anyway, I am burning the heater and will try out tomorrow. Here are some pic...
Is there any technical reason that you use a 400V transformer to feed the driver tube? The plate voltage on 6E5P is only +200V. Therefore from my point of view, a 220-240V transformer would be enough.
Ostblock, you need t...

Had a small amount of free time tonight. 150vac secondary, fred, 100uf, 500r, 1000uf, 30k, 5k, (like melq schema 4.4) no load voltage(b and c test point with no gas tube) 226.2vdc both lines. secondary is actually putting out 171.6 so 226.2 makes s...
