I have explored the subject of tapped horns. My exploration did not include listening them – ridicules, isn’t it? I did consult with a few folks, who I respect and who built and heard many of them and who know subject well. I pretty much know what I ...

It is not the thread to talk about Tapped Horn but listening to what you Tapped Horn users saying I do understand my suspicions about the concept. I can’t objectively judge sound from Tapped Horn as I did not hear any properly made, calibrated and in...

Any LF acoustic system has two SPL levels: the SPL of pressure and the SPL of tone.
Ahhh! Very good Romy. I don't recall you talking about Pressure and Tone SPL before. The tapped horn can be designed any 3 ways....

It sucks – whoever builds horns too damn far! I need to see my congressmen to lobby lowering taxes for horn users of something like this….
Anyhow, the “erenechaos” comments about the “soft bass" is a good sign, though of course to equalize the...

RobertAren't those meant to be driven by 250W SS amps ? Did you chose driver for your midbass already ? I thought that for this range 8" Lowther DX series with its 50Hz Fs and its "lean" sound could compliment your GOTO drivers (16 Ohm version has 3m...

Hello Romy,The tapped horns were easy to construct so I made them while I was working on the midbass channel. I can't really comment on how good tapped horns are because I have never heard other 20-35hz capable systems... it does provide amazing SPL'...
I built a pair of tapped horns, as per John Hasquin, designed to integrate w/ mid-bass horns (cross over ~ 70-80 hz). Loaded in the corners, the low bass is well supported, and, they "dissapear" sonicaly. By that, I mean, ...

I think it might be very interesting to introduce the high-pass filtration for tapped horn and to see how it behaves. It is not only about thermal overload and restriction of excursion. The unloading of none-used bass generally clean-up the transpare...
I didn't use John Hasquin's tapped horn design, I modeled my own in hornresp for my TAD woofer. I knew I would only need it up to ~55Hz so I was happy to have it flat from 23Hz-70Hz. The lowest crossover point for Behringer DCX 2...

Yes, tapped horns are lower efficiency, mine are 105 dB (not 108 - 110 dB like the rest of the system). I don't even KNOW that SET or Class A is automatically appropriate for tapped horns... Something like op amp driven PP in class AB might even wo...

Above I was discussing the new integration process I used to mate the tapped horns with the rest of the system. Below is a graphic to help explain the listening arc. I just moved the tapped horns along an equal-distant arc until the phasing of th...

There are at least three benefits of using a compression chamber in a tapped horn design.1.) When using push-pull woofers with a compression chamber second order distortion is cancelled. This effect is very audible. You must hear it to understand...

Sarurntube, I am quite curious about the mysterious tapped horns these days. What are the physical dimensions and power requirements of your tapped horns? Are they 1/4 or 1/8 wave horns? Do you use a FR amp or a sub-only amp to drive them? Do you...
