Continuing to harass the readers of my site and myself with the good news about the performance of my SA8535 driver I would like to post a very educational article about the subject. As I told before, being familiar with sound of ribbons then never i...

I would like to pass some summarizing observations and some generalizations regarding the entire “Water Drop” project.
THE IDEA
The idea of trying to find a tweeter to compliment Macondo was a good idea. Many of you know that I was proudly declari...

I'm probably revealing my ignorance by even asking this, but I'm
curious to know if a field coil ribbon tweeter could be practical. It
occurs to me that if one could be made, it would be a lot safer since
it wouldn't be a black hole for magnetic o...

It is interesting indeed how people allow their attention to go from fixation to fixation without ever changing/adapting methodology, believing none the less that each single idea in turn is The Answer. I remember the first time I heard th...

I emailed to Bo and he said that they can't provide individual units. There is another interesting drier out there. It is RBN180 18” toll ribbon with reported sensitivity of 110dB

Ronny, it does sound interesting, thanks. As they said they were the people who supplied the Red Rose Music speakers with Ribbons? Still, while they called a statement” "Ribbons are excellent but suffer from bad efficiency" as an warranted myth they ...

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who is overwhelmed by compression drivers. I tried the A7s way back when they were current and everyone's favorite, and I tried various modifications with like-minded friends; but I came to the concl...

I was playing today with Stage Acompany SA 8535 Ribbon driver. It is truly 103dB sensitive little monster with crazily large 3 poll Neodymium magnet. I did listen the driver and there are some things that I like in it and there are some that I do not...

I was keep listening my Dutch-made SA8535 tweeter. There is a lot of deferent with this tweeter and I think it is a good time to pass my early observations about the tweeter Sound.
This driver is not a ribbon tweeter as the Stage Acompany frau...

Here is another very interning solution to compliment S2 driver with top end. Townshend Audio have their Ribbon Tweeter with reported 110dB sensitivity and price of $1500.

when you say conventional tweeters have 30 - 40 degrees - at which frequency is that ? probably not at 20 khz.
sure at some low enough frequency a ribbon in effect becomes a point source. but at higher frequencies it should become more and more ...

Haralanov, as far as I know, Madisound does not offer my ribbon. Mine is not a stock Fountek, but it is a re-worked version of the old, discontinued Fountek JP2, a very narrow "naked" ribbon (ie,. no coating), and 97+ dB efficient. I got my Audaphon ...

One of many issues with dipole speakers is directivity/beaming at HF. I have been firing multiple paper tweeters at various angles on my OB test mules with varying results. Here is Alex's idea for a dipole ribbon:https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.c...
|
Sure, Josh, I have done this, and it does work, as far as it goes. I have for some time used ribbons over 8k, because I like them for top of HF. This one is the only HE, dipole, HF ribbon I have seen. Most efficient HF ribbons are "housed" by thei...
I see why you want those tap options now - essentially you want to be able to load down the 6e5p but still use all the secondary sections. There may be some frequency response variations in the ultrasonic range by playing the tap ga...
Regarding your HF: Do you use a naked ribbon over 10k? If the PP2000 has worked for you, you might want to try it.
Well, I will try the PP2000 after I have finished evaluating the new 2A3 tubes. The EdgarHorn Titans use a...

I note English Mfgrs tried low power ribbon Midrange horns in the 50's (Decca, Kelly & Quad also made one!).These were probably inspired by the hi pwr prewar? Klangfilm ribbon horn (would like to hear one of those!) But, after Peter Walker moved ...

this is almost certainly true.

I tend to think that we are not copying Romy, but more that he has generated a school of thought on audio and yes horns speakers also.I too have a system following some of the Macondo Axioms, but have used all diferent drivers. As with other drivers, ...

I've just got it and successfully integrated to system:Blue - original SPLGreen - with single capacitorRed - together with JBL 2453They match perfectly and sound amazing. Finally violins are very real. I'm completely satisfied with the result!...
no one know
what it is and how it sounds but I can bet all money in my pocket that
with this size it has problematic HF, not to mention that being a ribbon
it sound worse with each Hz of lower extension.

In my opinion the trend towards AMTs in mainstream audio ist justified. They integrate very well with direct radiator midranges, even when they are crossed low. They are more dynamic and detailed than fabric domes, but not absolutely unforgiving. The...

Likely, the wider ribbons are less good for HF-only than a long, narrow ribbon, like the G3 and G3Si use. Across the board, the larger the ribbon gets (and the lower the ribbon is made to go), the worse the dynamics at a&nbs...
