Yes, there is a Radian replacement diaphragm for original JBL phenol ones. It's a 4" voice coil, aluminium alloy dome with mylar suspension. Looks good on paper but I don't know if it is good. The retail is $210, usually goes on Ebay around $160.So y...
Thats the kind of stuff I was hoping for. I appreciate the help with this, there seems to be a scarcity of horn related discussion on the web and its proving hard to learn the ropes. One other unrelated question that could save me a l...

Hi All,This is my 1st ever post, but extremely disappointed I never came across this site beforeHere is my current setup, for which I'm desperately seeking some help from fellow membersCabinet - Layered Birch Ply with curved sidesWoofers [93.67dB]- 2...

Thanks for the detailed answers. I will explain my setup. You are right about the dipole bass correction instead of the injection channel. Since I am waiting for both a subwoofer and the Fane Studio 8M and their horn, I am using the 12" as a b...

Hi i want to replace my 802 G drivers with something that plays flat and has extended highs. I have several horns was thinking of using Radian drivers like the 1.4" 745pb i have some 800hz 1.4" tractrix horns to mount them on. Anyone have experienc...

There might be 'rule of thumb' here, but let me explain a bit better with some specifics.I'll have a Radian CD in a 425hz horn playing 800hz up to where it starts to roll off naturally at 6db at, say, 10K. And a similar Radian taking over from there ...

While I am waiting for the attenuators I worked on the frame and changed it to a metal frame. It is sturdy and height of the channels can be adjusted in both axis.Romy, may I learn what your crossover points for your channels? My midrange channel is be...

I have been working on my system. I post sparse as I need to listen a lot before doing any changes or decide on anything.I have changed the 1000hz JMLC horn to a 1400hz JMLC horn and the results are better. I have better integration with the Fostex t...

Which values are you after? If its the crossover points, here they are, they ay be indicative for you;dual Tad1601b's in 298lt br boxes - open on bottom to 120 Hz, in a range 90 to 150 Hz ~12 dB (three different settings can be chosen, according to r...

I have been quietly listening and working on my new system. The upperbass horn can be crossed lower than I anticipated, which is great news for me. I was going to have the crossover point of 160hz, but I can easily do 120hz :) The dual tad's will be ...

I think they could could make the sound more pleasant with an overkill of second harmonic distortion. But for people who prefer that kind of sound a relax-horn like Anima would be better anyway. No real solution. Maybe they should try the Radian alum...

Roman,I don't think I've ever read your explanation why not 2482? We are all on a holy grail path to find a (somehow) available good compression driver that can go down to almost 200hz in domestic conditions and there are not many better candidates. ...

A kind chap from the Lansing Heritige forum has identified my new driver as a 2482. Interestingly those good radian people do an replacement aluminium diaphragm for this driver. What remains to be seen is how big the advantage of the original phenolic...

A Fostex wood horn instead of the ugly metal monstrum plus a Fostex supertweeter on top would give a nice look. And you could let a 2" Radian run against a 2" Eighteensound Aluminium driver. I would be very interested in the outcome of this competitio...

OK this is with a digital XO, I'm wondering whether most of you would bother to low pass a 800-10k Radian mid in a 425hz Azurahorn, which hands over to a 10K+ tweeter?I've read that playing too high for a particular horn has some sort of dissadvantag...

Hans, indeed, generally it
it not a good idea to have idea put crossover point in between 2 and 4K but it
is a general rule. That rule that might be very much overridden by a good
practical implementation of a particular installation. To do this “...

Romy, Radian 475be performs best over 2K. It has some distortion around 1700 Hz. I think in general that 1 inch drivers should not be used lower than 2K.I understand your point that the practical implementation is more important than a "best practice...

Romy,I took your advice and now have a single 2440 driver. At least i THINK its a 2440. On opening it i find that it has a phenolic diaphragm! Have I been sold something else? I was not aware that there were ever any phenolics for the 2440 family. Wa...

-Background- Enspired by Jeffery Jacksons system as displayed @ VSAC, I'm building a five-way horn system. Tapped horn for up to ~80Hz; w/ Eminence driver 65Hz Tractrix from ~80Hz to ~400Hz w/ fane 8"; 250Hz LeCleach from ~400Hz to ~2...

Why dont you use your midrange horn with the JBL from 600hz to 4800hz? I think it would have a fairly flat and good response and tt wont be beaming. It works with the tractrix 1000, I have done it before. I then tried my Radian 475be with JMLC1400 fr...

I tend to like drivers with plastic suspension. Radian makes retrofit diaphragms for JBL with plastic suspension, maybe they will help you achieve the tone you are looking for.
Extensions are easy to machine out of aluminum, even wood and they can ...

Paul, l I have written about it somewhere: the passive speaker-level crossovers on bass channels are no good. Marko has 250Hz that with 3rd order would be around 10mH and 2mH. With air core then would be very large coils with huge amount of DCR – ver...

Op, I clearly have no idea as I never have seen/heard about the 2440 with phenolic diaphragm. Who know perhaps they did it. The phenolic diaphragms were the invention in late 60-70s and a remedy against the nastiness of the first SS amplificatio...
Hi, I am slowly building my own Macondo. I understand why the injection channel is there. It brings some kind of softness that the compression drivers lack.
OK, but it is not how I feel about the service of injection...
