In my case I found that RAAL ribbon with first order can not deal with dynamics of S2 driver.
I suspect that my RAAL Lazy Ribbon does not have as much lower frequency output as your RAAL Waterdrop. RAAL refused...

Over the course of the last month we have a numerous communication with the RAAL’s Alex. With all my “accuracy” handling of the “Water Drop” tweeters I have eventually terminally damaged the ribbons on my left channel and I asked Alex to send me ribb...

Whoever followed the following thread:
http://www.goodsoundclub.com/LatestPosts.aspx?ThreadID=2974kind of know what was brewing with Macondo tweeter. Over the last couple months I was working with RAAL Company

After spending a day with RAAL’s “Water Drop” tweeter, trying to make a mounting harness for it I have to tell you that it almost a nightmare to handle it. Around this tweeter I was forced to recognize all objects I my room on magnetic and non-magnet...
The "calm HF" effect is something I have long sought but seldom experienced from repro, and I have blamed the amps as much as the ribbons. Mere HF extension is not enough. Hard to say whether the amp or the rib...

I would like to pass some summarizing observations and some generalizations regarding the entire “Water Drop” project.
THE IDEA
The idea of trying to find a tweeter to compliment Macondo was a good idea. Many of you know that I was proudly declari...

One of many issues with dipole speakers is directivity/beaming at HF. I have been firing multiple paper tweeters at various angles on my OB test mules with varying results. Here is Alex's idea for a dipole ribbon:https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.c...

I sent an email to Brian asking... also about how far down in frequency their largest mumetal core could go.I see why you want those tap options now - essentially you want to be able to load down the 6e5p but still use all the secondary sections. The...

Very good. Raal 70-20XR...interesting. Where are you planning to cross these over?I remember the discussion about the internal balloon. That is a very good idea and this may be the perfect opportunity to try it. It will also b...
Romy, take a look at EML 30A and its cousins:
http://www.emissionlabs.com/datasheets/EML20B.htm
Yep, thanks, JJ. Still the EML 30A has a lot of gain but it has also very high plate impedance as well. As much gain w...

In inversing tweeter, spent some time listing it. It has at 93dB 6.8R and .63mH. The inductance is too high for my application, so I would need to shunt primary with one more coil to drive inductance down. I recognize only Bessel cu...

Its interesting to see that RAAL are now representing Feastrex for many countries in Eastern Europe. I wonder if they intend to create something using both types of driver!...
|
The RAAL’s Alex is trying to undertake a task of horn-loading of his ribbons. I am not a big enthusiast of the idea. I am not quite sure how Alex will combine in one driver the requirements of super-tweeter and a horn-loaded MF driver, not to mention...

I have been asked by a number people who monitored my progress with RAAL’s “Water Drop” tweeter: “Romy was it worth it?” Well, I think after a year of leaving with tweeter, learning and satisfying it’s little habits I might pass some generalizing obs...

just would like to clarify the cost of this ribbon, xfmr. etc.the figure of 2600us$ is that for tweeter pr. only or complete with the xfmr.?i got a quote of 4000 euros +300 ship in jan./08.has the material cost risen dramaticly since you got yours wha...

A always considered that there are two altimate clowns in audio-press: Srajan Ebaen from 6.moons and Steven Rochlin from enjoy the Music. If I perceive Steven Rochlin as some kind of freakish “Da Ali G” of audio then Srajan stir within me with ...

Hard to comment on this one... Seems like most everyone I talked to there hears with their eyes, and thought they were beautiful sculpture, therefore sounded wonderful... Maybe I should just be honest and say I flat didn't like the s...

With the omnidirectivety paranoia many people might loose from attention that fact that in order to be good omnidirectional speaker the RAAL new speaker has to be just a good conventional speaker first. The new RAAL speaker (does it have a name?) as ...

We spoke today with Alex about his omni-directional idea. I have to admit that I did not “get” what he was trying to accomplish and I had very skeptical attitude toward to it. I was feeling that Alex moved toward to this omni idea juts because he can...

I've just got it and successfully integrated to system:Blue - original SPLGreen - with single capacitorRed - together with JBL 2453They match perfectly and sound amazing. Finally violins are very real. I'm completely satisfied with the result!...

Looks like you still have the protective shield over the front of the RAAL ribbon in the video. Is the RAAL in use or turned off?...
|
Yes, now it is off. It is connected to 109db tap, but still can't match the sensitivity of the rest of the system. So, I need another amp for it which is a big problem, because my amp is "piece uniqe" and I need to wait more that a year for the second...

There should be an 111dB tap on the Lazy Ribbon, but perhaps you have tried that already. Other than that, perhaps talk to RAAL to see if they can improve the sensitivity a little more with a transformer change (or something else)...it might be quic...

It is a RAAL Lazy Ribbon with the integrated transformer doubling as DSET OPT. Surprisingly, I started with a 4th order high pass filter which has steadily migrated back to first order...and it works.Next step is to trial a biradial horn for a bit m...

I tend to think that we are not copying Romy, but more that he has generated a school of thought on audio and yes horns speakers also.I too have a system following some of the Macondo Axioms, but have used all diferent drivers. As with other drivers, ...

Romy,Interesting video. The first thing that came to my mind when you were talking about HF colours and the "clean" RAAL Waterdrop tweeter, is perhaps adding colour to the RAAL. Instead of blanding out the midrange S2 and injecting HF colour with t...
