Ulf, are you still around?
I would be interested in an update on this project.. are you listening to this setup a year later?
I have a pair of these same drivers (TAD tm-1201) sitting new in boxes and trying to determine what horn profile, tractr...

Greg, I see a regions of concerns that you might contemplate.
TAD 1201 might be good driver but how useable would be the 200/300-800/1000 range? Let pretend that you end up with 250Hz, then what next? You will introduce a bottom octave section but t...

Romy:Thank you for the reply. First, a correction: I have a pair of TAD 1201. The MTM idea would utilize other drivers, such as the LE-8, 2118, etc. I'm certainly not against buying another pair of TAD, however. The 1201 w...

Hi Greg, linkSearch the site and you'll find that Ulf has created a upper bass horn using the aforementioned TAD 1201's.I also own a pair still in boxes waiting for the weather to warm up enough for me to start some enclosures and horns for.My origina...

Malinowski , are you still around? Did you get into making those midbass horns and if yes how did they turn out? Let me know .Regards, Klamecki...

There seems to be a lack of useful feedback on the actual sound quality of these oddball, relatively rare TAD mids. So I think it would be helpful to share some basic observations I gather after listening to them for a couple of days. I install these...

Operating a driver in an open baffle will cause front-to-back sound wave cancellation, aka the acoustical short circuit. In addition to this, a plane board baffle offers zero air load to the drivers cone. This is not good. That's why it sounded like ...

I agree the dipol is generally a wrong direction for entire speaker system but I thought it a good way to evaluate a specific driver's sound and character. I am I wrong here? The box should only increase the bass range and provide additional damping....

The best-sounding drivers I've heard will amplify a wide range of sounds from scratching or tapping differently at different points on the cone, or even from tapping or rubbing the driver frame. And never mind OB, some throw amazing tonal range and ...

I still remember proposed solution for symetrical TAD 1201 horn loaded midbass sections. Was it to free listener from sweet spot low seat position ? I could imagine that that midbass horn performing up to 1000Hz sitting low on the floor would impair&...

of MTM arrangement of two TAD 1201 in <100 Hz Horn ? I assume they would both work in the same frequency range . Also JBL LE8 is only 89 db driver and it doesn't look like it can take any power . Difference in efficiency within the channels would ...

The cone soaking is a whole another subject all together. It is possible to make amassing changes with drivers, from taking the sound out off roof to complete killing sound. I know that effect Glycerin has to paper cone. There are hundreds of other c...

[quote user="ulf"]One advantage of the use of a phase plug in a midbass horn is that it will beam less at higher frequenzies than a horn without phase plug. If the phase plug is designed for the specific horn and driver it will help "steer" the HF.
