Piano success and passive x-over
I'm giving myself high fives today for nearly solving the broken piano sound in the room. :-)
I'm not sure what fixed it, but I believe it to be a shelf half filled with records + two sofas and a carpet.

There is room for improvement but it is a giant leap ahead. Goldberg Variations are more enjoyable than painful to listen to!!!

The next big problem with sound here I think is a difference in sound level between upper bass and MF/HF.
Upper bass seems louder (and ought to be). Would you help this electronics-handicapped guy to pad down the upper bass horn with for example 6dB? Do I just put a resistor before the coil?

Here's what the passive crossover looks like now:

The MF/HF horn is loaded with a Fostex (8 ohm), and upper bass with Fane Studio 8M (16 ohm)

Ronnie, any further conversations and experiments shell be stopped by you at this point until you found yourself you get yourself a simple RTA and phase tester. No, you do not need the any TEF analyzers or any tools of Time Delay Spectroscopy 0 the Macondo do not need it. However a rudimental RTA and polarity testers are the tools without which no farther progress is possible in context of the Macondo topology.

OK! Horn break
I will have to get me a DAYTIME JOB again, so I can afford such things!

Looking forward to playing with other things Audio for a while, particularly Vinyl.
The sound is very pleasant.

A phase tester and RTA analyzer.

Ronnie,

There are no needs to be funny about it and there are no needs to get a daytime job.

A phase tester and RTA analyzer are absolutely obligatory thighs to employ and they are inexpensive and very simple to use. A simplest phase tester you might get for $50 and it will be absolutely enough and you will be using it to the rest of your life.

With RTA you would not need anything fancy. There are a number of computer based RTA and some of them are extremely good and very cheap. For instance you my try the John Murphy’s TrueRTA.

http://www.trueaudio.com/

It is very simple analyzer, cost juts $100 but it might be VERY powerful and indicative tool if used properly. The TrueRTA is 10Hz to 48KHzm, 1/24 octave.  You would need a microphone to go with it and nowadays you might get for sub $50 a very-very good instrumental microphone. Interesting that with tools like TrueRTA you might not need any good microphones or good sound card - you might calibrate them off.

True RTA and Windows trouble
Yes, I've been meaning to aquire such things for quite a while now.
The biggest obstacle is that I think I need to format the drive and do a clean install of XP (or Vista).

I did some audiophile trick with the system and since then XP doesn't acknowledge any "Primary Audio Device". I don't remember what I did, but know I've tried a lot of things to fix it.

I can't use the soundcard input (for the microphone), and I can only output sound using a few audio programs such as Winamp, specifically choosing "AC'97" instead of "Primary Sound Driver".
I tried reinstalling Win XP, but it didn't help.
If you get a "Try this!" idea, then it's very welcome!

Just thinking out loud:
Mic, Mic stand, Mic cables, Mic preamp, file backup, install XP (get a new version?), True RTA, Phase Tester.
