Easy Bruckner for Beginners.

There is wonderful box set of all Bruckner symphonies that has very easy listening and offers a very good snapshot what Bruckner is all about. It is Wurttemberg Philharmonic Reutlingen under direction of Roberto Paternostro. The box has 11 CD, all-live recordings and you can buy it for $10-$15 a whole set. Do not be deceived by the ultra low price – the performances in there are much better then 90% of the performances out there. Yes, Wurttemberg Philharmonic I not Berlin or Verna. But they demonstrate very discipline and capable play, even sometimes they do luck some refine sophistication. The Paternostro phrasing sometimes are also not at the very top of my list of the Bruckner interrupters but it still a VERY good and very mature play of Bruckner. The most wonderfully in all those recording is that they were recorded live in Basilika Weingarten – reportedly the largest church in Europe. The reverberation in there is huge and Paternostro pay very smart tempos in there in respect to this reverberation. This all makes the Bruckner music to sound as Bruckner has to sound in my view. It is very easy and very pleasant box set.

Hi Romy
Should I pay 95€ for a seat ro hear LSO /haitnick perform Bruckner 7th? It will be broadcast live over the net by the way. I don't have much experience with Haitnick but something makes me think he is more comfortable with mozart?

I would. To hear the 7th live is fun at least to me. I can’t imagine he in my area would be played the 7th and I would miss it. London after Gergiev is much warmer sounding orchestra compare to what they use to be and who knows, they my show off a nice play. Haitnick is fine. Go, you might like it.
