Eduardo de Lima is a freak of the nature, so far….

In this forum dedicated to satire and mockery of audio bogusness I will mention Eduardo de Lima, the guy who runs Brazilian company AUDIOPAX. Contrary to what would be expected from me at THIS forum of my site (pretentiously calls “World Audio News”) I have no intention make fun about Eduardo.

I have to tell you honesty I like the guy. Eduardo has a very different from most of Hi-Fi manufactures attitude toward himself and his “arrangement in audio”. Also, I like very much the way how he thinks about amplifiers. He has that “ever present wondering of a child” and it is real pleasure to talk with him about audio and about interactions of our stupid egos with our consciousness. I sincerely feel that form the fertile soul of THAT type of awareness the great audio decisions might derive….

Eduardo de Lima and his AUDIOPAX have a site:

http://www.audiopax.com/

…and they have an interesting amp

http://www.audiopax.com/products_arquivos/model98_arquivos/m98b.pdf

I heard it two years ago at CES and it was like any other amps at the show. Still, something intrigues me in that amp and I would like to propose to whoever has more access to this amplifier to give it a try in intelligent manor. Some things that Eduardo wants to do or at least wants to say (read his white papers) make his amps (I think) very promising or at least interesting to get familiar with.

The AUDIOPAX amplifiers are defiantly for my point of view the machines to watch. Eduardo is relatively recently in the “big high-end audio” business and he has another couple years before he will be “fucked” by the audio industry and will become like “the rest of them”.  If someone well-familiar with Eduardo’s amps then please post your feelings on the subject.

Eduardo...
Arguably the most humble, yet brilliant designer I have ever met.

However, I am very concerned about him on a personal level.

Eduardo seems to be wonderfully suited to be a designer.

However - IMO - having to run the company, keep everything in inventory, oversee production, pay the bills, etc. simply isn't a part of his skill set.

And I suspect he dislikes that part so much that it may eventually cause his company to suffer.

But please do not take this as a fact, it's only speculation and maybe a little intuition.

I truly hope Eduardo lives long and prospers.

Because if he does, he will make a difference for many others.

Link to "interesting amp" won't work as expected
It directs to a "brochure" jpg with no information about any amp. Would you care to develope your opinion about the "interesting amp" by de Lima? I would like to know why in spite of not finding its sound of any special interest, you still find it worth any attention. Reading his explanations about Timbre Lock, PTS and ASTAT I wonder if this is just marketing BS or it really means anything that can be useful to get some interesting results using commercial, average lowish sensivity loudspeakers.

It is not really important.

Hm, Jim, I read what you said and it absolutely did not impact my perception of that guy.

My recognition of Eduardo’s talents and his “accused” design potency has absolutely no connection with his business management practice. I absolutely do care about his ability to “oversee production” and comply with his vendors. In the very same way, I completely do not care if Eduardo’s company prosper or go to dark; it is the subject of his fanatical wellbeing but not the subject of Sound that he is capable to pull out pile of wires, capacitors and resistors. Sure, I wish better people do better money-wise, but it is absolutely separate topic, the topic that I would like to avoid all together.

I chosen do not acknowledge the business part of audio. Surly, for people who do audio professionally it is not the option but I have my luxury to do it by complete disregarding any other “conditions” then juts unadulterated Sound. The problem with me is that I have seen in what kind of shit my mind turns into when I let the fog of business mercantilism to cloud my better judgment. I also witnessed the same “awareness worsening” processes with many people that I know in audio. So, I would extend to Eduardo a credit for him being a motivation thinker but I would completely disregard how his thinking renders itself into “shippable” and “reviewable” commodities. I case less about Eduardo do in order to satisfy the Atkinson’s distortion analyzer, the Valin’s listening idiocy or the Singer’s marketing appetite of. In fact, I personally know that if Eduardo do come up with something worthwhile then it will not be because of those scavengers but despite of them…

I agree 100%.

But the reason I have been concerned for him is that if his business should go dark, then maybe his own desires re audio design would be hurt from the experience, and thus he simply gives up and walks away.

In case of AUDIOPAX I feel different.

Antonio, I fixed the link.

Yes, a much of what said in there might be viewed as marketing BS. What is a different between marketing BS and the valuable features that do make differences? It is complicated questions and I am not sure that all “features” that enumerated at AUDIOPAX site do make scene.

I had quite good exposure to Model 88. It was not the “best amp that I head” but I did not have it is a conditions where any “best amp” should be evaluated. Still, the Model 88 had some interesting “twist” that made it to settle down in my memory as “tailored amp”, not a lot of amp had this privilege…

I spoke with Eduardo couple of times, very briefly and it was always very interning to observe how his mind works. Most of the manufactures that I spoke, if they are not juts idiots, then they are narcissistic jerks who are in constant defense of their pathetic status quo. With Eduardo is different. He does not try to empress you, to thrill you, to humble you or to sanctify you. He rather listens and then tries to find within himself reflections of what he heard. It makes Eduardo very perceptive and able him to react in accordance to you needs. Ironically his amps (at least the Model 88) have, in a way, the similar quality. They kinds of embracing and agreeable, polite but with integrity…  I feel it is a sign of a great engendering mind that enabled machinery to react in according to human communication patterns.

As I said, I do not know how much marketing BS in what Eduardo express at his site. However, that there are companies that honestly say “Truth” (as they know it) and upon looking at the results and at the people I have a very firm sentiment that it was  a pure BS. In case of Eduardo, however, I feel different. No mater what kind BS he says I wish him keep talking….

Where is Eduardo de Lima and Audiopax now?
Audiopax.com is not accessible and from what I can gather the model 98b was not released. Does anyone have any info on what Eduardo de Lima is up to now? I noticed a UK company using the Audiopax name (audiopax.co.uk), but with no real information or presence of Eduardo de Lima.

Eduardo de Lima died – very sad.

Aged 54, passed away during a surgerym in hospital. Local friends and admirers attending his funeral reportedly honored him with a long standing ovation. Eduardo left his wife, children, Audiopax Company and wonderful memory of being one of the few audio industry participants whom I respect and liked.
