In diyaudio site there is guy who is planning to do something like this.

Click the 5th picture from above. This is very interesting move as he introduced another channel, making the transition between the channels way less granular it however increases the total highs of the system. I do not know what would benefit of it, I do see some advantaged and some discadvantaged.
