Fantasies about 10Y
fiogf49gjkf0d
It is not that I will be experimenting with 10Y in Milq's F channel but I need to admit that I always loved 10Y and not only because I happened to have a good selection of them. It is a pain in ass tube with high voltage but with very promising sonic capacity. So, it is natural that when I read at PF review of Thomas Mayer 10Y I got homey. I do not know who Thomas Mayer 1 is, what he does and I do not read German. However, the idea that someone still do today a pure 10Y makes very happy…

Thomas the amp builder

Thomas is a German with a blog in english. I am sure that you know who he is:

He is a guy with a soldering iron and an affinity for unusual tubes. I am not sure if uniqueness is more important than sonics. Looking at the site does not show me any real sonic development over the years, rather just pretty and unique tube stuff - also for the DIYourselfer.

Article is in English

There is an English version of the review (for your interest)...

Some very upmarket parts choices right there.  Another place that I have noticed Thomas Mayer is attached to Wolf Von Langa fieldcoils...(the valve towers in between the white giants)..

EDIT:  getting hyperlinks to work

Ah, is it a preamp?!!
fiogf49gjkf0d

Hm, I did not realize that that it was a preamp. I thought that it was a hybrid power amp. In preamp the Y10 probably might sit at lower voltage. I have no idea how can they talk about preamp and do not talk about what output impedance it has. The Y10 with OPT it would not be too low… To me it would be fun to have Y10 as power amp with some kind of interesting driver.
