Kharma Loudspeakers reach further!!!

The Audiogon leader: “Oosterum Loudspeaker Systems”, the Netherlands manufacturer responsible for the Kharma loudspeakers, recently announced that they terminate the long-term relationships with corporation “Toys R Us”. The founded Charles van Oosterum informed public that removing the siren drivers from the $19.95 kind’s toy fire-trucks and placing those drivers into the $25.000 loudspeaker proved to be a great success for Kharma. However, recently this venture did not generate a sufficient profit margin. After the extensive marketing research Kharma approached pentagon and signed a contract to supply this ceramic driver to US military. The US military experts concluded that the Kharma’s ceramic drivers have the excursion so high and that so disproportionaly larger then the driving voltage that those drivers might be used to catapult military ammunition to the remote locations. “We are gald”, Mr. Oosterum said - “ that our afforts were eventually recognized by the sophisticated connoisseurs of Real sound”

Hi Romy, I'm from the Netherlands and I've heard this news too.

What do you think of Dunlavy speakers? Do you think they are crappy, worthless and outdated? I know John Dunlavy used some cheap drivers on his speakers. I have the SC-V.

Chris,

I do not know how my opinion about the Dunlavy related to news about the Kharma Loudspeakers. There is a differents between the “not-effective enough drivers” (for instance the woofers used in your SC-V) and the fundamentally faulty drivers that Kharma employs. Ironically I very much what respect what Kharma does recently. I mean the hierarchy of the loudspeakers that they bult, thier idea to come up with some own electronic, thier move to the different speaker topologies… all of it are very smart marketing moves and they will bring a lot of money to them. Unfortunately all those smartness affect only the account receivable of the Kharma and this Kharma’s associates. That “smartness “has nothing to do with Sound that Kharma’s users get out of the Kharma products. Kharma juts very fortunate that the supreme majority of thier customers are uninformed and mostly deaf Morons who have pterodactyl’s reference points.  So, they easy could go away with producing and marketing crap.

Hi Romy, first my apologize for the somewhat confusing reply I posted. The Dunlavy question is not related to the very funny Kharma news you mentioned (which is of course a very sick but brilliant joke! Heheh). I actually have the Dunlavy SC-V and although this is a bit off topic I was curious of how you think about the design. Further, I've red the discussion regarding the Wilson speakers and in one of your replies you mentioned briefly Dunlavy speakers. In my opinion is the SC-V albeit the very crappy units a quite satisfying speaker, because of it's neutral and honest rendering of musical timbres.
