OK, I guess it does "oversample" (whatever that means)...
fiogf49gjkf0d
The fact that it's taken me this long to notice shows how little I care, but I did find it "of interest" to (finally) note that the iDAT has "8X oversampling, intelligent filter":

http://www.museatex.com/idat44.htm

Believe me, however, I never "went" for this; just saying...

Meanwhile, I have not heard anything to stimulate investigation into changing my digital front end, although things I read have me semi-alert for something "more universal" (and preferably cheap...) to try to ADD digital programming, but (again) not to replace my CD player.

TDA1549T Chipset(s)
fiogf49gjkf0d
Nerds may care to look at Lampizator's study of the TDA1549T chipset in use for hi-fi. The iDAT 44+ uses 4 of these chips, 2/channel, driven Class A, in balanced mode. I have mentioned the use of this chipset before, but in another thread, also Musetex "official" site does not list it, so I put the info here to add to the "database"on this DAC unit.

The "Dutch List" of DACs
fiogf49gjkf0d
According to the Dutch Audio Classics list, the iDAT 44 uses 2 TDA1549Ts, and - come to think of it - that's all I counted the one time I had the lid off my unit.

http://www.dutchaudioclassics.nl/the_complete_d_a_dac_converter_list/

I suppose this means that the "stereo" aspect of each chip is used for the differential circuit "mirrors" in the iDAT 44 (2 X 2 = 4).

"Interesting" and too much information at the same time, if you ask me. Also interesting is the way the "bitstream" units work (AFAIK, the iDAT 44 is not a bitstream unit...), with all resources going to error correction, then feeding it back in as single bit "words". It boggles the mind, and IMO it's a miracle when any Music emerges from digital processing. If you have digital Music now, then don't mess with it!

The Sound Obsessive List of DACs/Chips
fiogf49gjkf0d
Here's another list that includes the TDA1549T, which it describes as "1 Bit". OK.

Finally replacing original battery...
The original Odyssey PC625 battery I used for my DAC finally crapped out, a couple of months ago. This means it worked when I wanted it to for 12 1/2 years. Not bad, I think, and this even though it mostly just sat there, doing nothing, since I usually listen to LPs. I just "found out" that this battery is actually a dry cell type. Certainly no SLA battery I ever had lasted me 12 1/2 years, and "just sitting there" is a death sentence for SLA batteries. I recommend this battery for DACs (given appropriate power supply option, of course). Again, I selected the DAC I got with battery power in mind, and YMMV, of course. If your DAC runs off a wall wart or wall wart size internal PS, you're probably good to go to battery.

Ha! It might have lasted FOREVER!
The new battery got here and when I removed the charging and PS adapter harnesses from the old battery I noticed that the threaded positive post on the original battery is broken, inside the battery! I must have over tightened it after cleaning and re-greasing the contacts! That certainly explains why the old battery wouldn't take a charge or power up my DAC anymore! And here I thought it had died a natural death. Given this revelation, how long will the new battery last, now that I know to be more careful? Will this site still be up so I can report on it here? Needless to say, my endorsement for this battery just got stronger! By the way, the Odyssey charger I got with the original battery still works fine, too. And as most of you (no doubt) realized at the time, I mis-typed that it's a 6V charger, but it's a 12V, 6A (smart), "companion" charger, of course.
