I juts was pointed out today that PS audio has some interesting ideas out.

The transport:

Interesting but it is not R2R multibit but delta-sigma multibit. It still will have full-range noise after DAC and require a relatively sharp filter. What I would like to see a properly made pure Successive Approximation Register multibit with option do not use any filters or let say a first order filter.

Also, the PS Audio Transport and DAC shall be in one enclosure with an ability of transport to burn DVDs with .W64 files.
I have no idea how the thing sound.

...anyone here had heard or used this device. Does it look like it will accept the range of BSO files I'm reading about?

If we're unsure, I could contact Paul and find out. But that's a bit outside my expertise...

One very nice thing: It has remote-control polarity switching.

I think what PS Audio did is just a first generation of machines like this and the will evolve. Paul claims that his transport will read WAV files, but it is just 2G out of 4.7G DVD. Will it read the .w64 files? How about the AIFF and AU files? How about the FLAC and WMA files?  How about the RIFF and Broadcast Wave Format (BWF). The point is that  a 24 bit transport shall read anything. I hate to read data from my DAW and I would like to convert my best FM recording to raw files on DVD. I love to have a dist in my head, to writhe notes on the box and so on… Sure it shall also to sound comparable to what my DAW does.

I didn't know it has a SD slot behind. I wonder if it could read music files from the memory card, it'd be great to save you the hassle of burning a DVD-R of music you don't know if you'll be listening in the future. For that very same reason, maybe it'd be interesting that the thing had a USB port accepting pen drives. With 16Gb and more capacity drives available for little money, we could use them to have a whole 4 hours opera inside to see if the performance is worth the discs.
For me it would be more handy than the wifi LAN connection, internet access or artwork storage as you already suggested in your conversation.

It is very good that PS Audio when to the direction they went but I think those designs need to mature and the requirements for the transports like this need to be refined.  I think is a year it will be more transports like this and the competition will bread better results. I just wish digital devises had a reasonable level of industry criticism, but they do not.

I personaly very much question the entirety of Paul McGowan clamming that his new transport quality of CD reading “will beat these machines easily” (CEC TL-0 MK2, Spectral SDR-2000 or Forsell Air MK2). I think he just does not know what he is dealing with sonically. I never own any PS Audio transports but I had PS Audio regenerator and I had Paul McGowan assurances that his PowerPlant does not ruin bass. If PS Audio new transport produce bass that PowerPlant cannot ruin then the PS Audio new transport and Mr. McGowan personal reference points has a lot of room for improvement. I generally have a lot of suspicion when I hear claims that some new 16-bit CD transport can beat TL-0, particularly in bass. Perhaps Paul McGowan experienced something that I do not know in this area but I am not convinced.

Anyhow, Paul does push the things in the right direction. I do not the result but the noise the direction created is stimulating.  BTW, it would be very interesting to know HOW properly PS Audio implemented the USP section of their new DAC.

Since I found the PS Audio digital thighs lately I spent some time to see what Paul McGowan says about his DAC. It not that I am on market for DAC (I am interested in Multibit with no filtration or with single-double  poll LC or RL filter) but it looks like PS Audio getting ahead of crowd, it is good and  it give some since of direction. Here is a multi-paged thread from the PS Audio forums that gives some ideas.

I do not know about the “killer 32-bit DAC with multiple filter choices”. To me the idea of 32-bit DAC sound ether too bogus or too fraudulent but whoever it worth.
