Could it be that the SoundDock gets the basics of sound reproduction right? And if the basics are attained without fussing around (and it matches your values of basics) then why trick yourself to search a better rightness. For me, it's the search for...

Thank you for sharing from your collection....

Paul,
I have a slightly different approach, I believe the sound system must not be optimized for the certain kind of music. I listen to a variety, but generally I believe the system must reproduce the sound, not the music. Music ...

I will give this one a try and let you know:http://www.waf-audio.com/index.php?lang=enSure, it may be another failure but maybe not; the only way is use it and listen.Gera...

I have been thinking about how nice it would be to have have a good sounding DSP for crossover and delay functionality. I know this subject was covered here before but what was talked about is this DSP is not that good, and this DSP is horrible, etc....

Can you put swivels (like caster wheels or a flat spinning disk) under your main speakers and turn them around so they point to deck?http://blog.exertools.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/swiveldisc.jpg...

Romy,
Thank you for your response. I am trying to figure out this horns and I did additional measurements. The phase plug is an interesting part of forming of the the horn throat expansion and because it is quite big and so looks like it is al...

I think this is an interesting topic. I have made experiments (with a digital dsp processor) in my system and tried 4th order crossovers. I did not like the sound at all. Trying to explain this sound signature is tricky but here is my interpretation ...

I got this new midbass horn to replace the Edgar 80Hz straight horn. It is made by Funktion-One and they claim it plays down to 90hz. I could not get it to play below 120Hz and I am trying to figure out why.Pictures are:mouth measurements with no fil...

Jorge, interesting findings. However, the tall arrays with small woofers is actually worth exploring further based on your findings. I am theorizing, but perhaps the "smearing" effect you were finding in comparison to the midbass horn was due to the h...

lately I've come to theorize that the horn midbass may be a contadictive dead end approach. The reason is that proper horn midbass (lets say 80 to 400Hz) will be a big one and present a few inherent "brick walls". It will physically shade the midrang...
|
For me personally, midbass is the most important frequency range when it comes to sound reproduction. I believe you will be on the right track to focus on this range because so often it is overlooked and treated with superficial attention, as a "...

I think most people, as audience find fascination in unusually capable performance of the performers, as in a live music event. So if there is no performer there is nothing to give homage to, really. Other than good reproductive properties of a sound...

Is it possible that over last two years, the humidity difference (or change) has been setting in both driver and midbass wood horn structure? This can be tested. Install a dehumidifier in your attic and run for a month, listen to change in sound....
|
I've been thinking about this matter for a while but could not find a better excuse to formulate my theory then in this topic. My simple theory is that if we reduce our concept of "music" the more fundamental concept of "sound" as point of reference ...

Get Better Sound, by Jim Smith.I like this book because it does help to visualize the sound at home as a big picture, so you will see more ways of expressing your problem and approaching it. Also, I think you need to get a completely different sound ...

why not use this to your advantage as a selling point. "One of few in world" "built-in vintage horn speakers"load with fullrange/co-axial drivers and fire up the sound for buyers. I think they will like that....

Hello fellows, wishing everyone a happy new year all the way from china! May good health good luck and joy fill your lives this time around! Have good fortune to be able to spend time doing what you enjoy, listening to music and gratification from exp...

Is there a pill for that too? Seriously, it would be very interesting to hear what solution you come up with because I have converted from listening music solo to a small number of audience (friends). So much that I listen by myself much less oft...

Alright then synergy horns aside, what is inherently wrong with wideband horns? I can understand that there is bs implementations and explanations/marketing, but if we put to side CURRENT wideband driver limitations and only look at horn. If horn is ...

[quote user="decoud"]This is a synergy horn, a topology that Danley has a patent on, I believe, and certainly the most expertise. There have been extensive discussions on this site about it, including Romy's theoretical objections to the idea. In a s...

Paul,I have not heard the synergy horn or any speaker with that design. Here is what I am talking about:http://www.yorkville.com/images/products/u15_cut_sm.jpgIn this particular case there are 3 mids and 1 tweeter driver sharing the same horn. This so...

I am NOT talking about single wideband drivers or any back loaded type horns. I am talking about properly made front loaded horns.
For example, the Danley Synergy horns, that use single horn with multiple drivers to cover a wide band...

This statement bothers me..."Let’s deal first with the definition of the absolute sound. It is, quite simply, the sound of acoustic instruments during a live performance in a specific performance space"First of all absolute sound has nothing to do wi...

[quote user="Macman"]Hi Romy,Its an Altec 416-8A driver in a ~100 Hz exponential horn, Jbl 2441 in 350Hz tractix, Aurum Cantus G1 tweeter and Eminence Definimax 4012 HO in ~30Hz Tapped horn.I just hooked it up and the highs are promising but I though...

Romy, Just make a good power generator that will not screw up dynamics and not be affected by dirty power. You had some ideas before (60Hz sine wave + amp with a lot of power) and you have experience in this matter. That will take care of all folks ...

I think I figured it out. Capacitor polarity. I reversed the polarity (leads are black and red) and sound changed. Now it sounds closer to what I am looking for, with better transients. Not as good as the digital crossover in the transient department...

>>Gera, are you catapulted from another planet? Are you sure that you want to drive a mid horn with Rowland amp?
Romy, some people that know me will say "yes", I am not sure... Of course no, not the Rowland to drive my horns, this is the amp ...

I thought that a digital crossover had a negative impact on sound quality -- especially for use between a midbass, midrange and tweeter channels. So I made an experiment a what I learned was not expected.I used my mid horn and two high pass filters i...

Romy,I thought I'd let you know that I ordered four of those Aura subs. Thanks for the advice, if I receive them (I hope so), I will install them into my new listening room. This will take a while because I still have a few months away from completin...
