When we had our son, I sold off all tube stuff because I did not want
any high-voltage equipment where he could prod with a knitting needle
and kill himself. It was a needless precaution. He responded well to my
grave remarks about not damaging...

I understand they still use TAD 703 and 4001. The 11" is from Supravox. No idea about the bass drivers. I liked this Cessaro demo much better than in previous years. ...
Topologically digital can’t attenuate (it means to filter)
Do you have a link to an explanation of this statement? Given the proliferation of digital volume controls, I'd like to understand more....
Now at higher it goes and as louder it gets it has more and more almost some kind of mechanical resonances overlying over sound. Dead tubes would not be doing it.
... but did you clean your needles? And does this h...

Personally, if I wanted to get a 2nd system, I wouldn't want a less good version of the main system. If they both share an approach to audio, you'll always hear the 3- or 4-ness when you are used to the same thing in 10. I'd try to be as different as...

Totally legible, and a relevant, if cheeky, question as well....

When I go to hear someone's system, I ask the owner to show me why it sounds the way it sounds. Some people understand the question and play me the music that is emotionally important for them, the music that has to "work". Sometimes, I learn somethi...

Interesting take on the Altec 820. No way can this be done for 20k. Looks like dipole bass with some attenuation for mid frequencies.Wolf von Langa has a faintly similar take on the Altec 820: http://www.holgerbarske.com/allgemein/fremderregt/#c...
I guess the reason why the arm lost it’s bass is ether the problem with arms or the problems with arm cable.
The phono stage has been ruled out?...

Re-reading, I realise you stated your preference for a sealed bass array only in relation to Dreyer's bass horn, not to bass horns in general....
I, looking at my “7 reasons” do have a preference to sealed boxes. I do not believe in accuracy of bass horns, particularly in context of system integration.
What made you change your mind?...

You may well have more knowledge than I. It doesn't matter. This is not a competition. Have fun....

Horst, why not go to Frickelfest or some other occasion, show off your
work and see how people like it. What I read on your website doesn't
really go beyond "Judging my own work, I'm delighted by it". ...

I am on record as not liking back loaded
horns:to be effective at bass frequencies, a BLH needs to be as long
as a FLH would be; I've yet to see a BLH, with the possible exception
of the Tannoy Westminster, that actually has a long enough horn ...
There is a strange looks like another tweeter at the bottom of the bass horn.
I can't really make it out on the photo, but it looks a bit like a Tannoy Supertweeter....
they all are different.
Have you ruled out demagnetisation as a factor? I'd consider re-magnetizing the drivers before settling on a solution....

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Romy. I heard the Aporia in Munich last year IIRC, Joe, and thought the sound very weird. Dynamically and tonally uneven over the frequency range.Romy: posted in error, please delete or move to the WE thread....

These speakers were not open baffle. I would agree with Mani's description of their sound, except for the 'edge' bit. That depended on where you were sitting/standing....

what's an NH guy? A neighbour from New Hampshire?...
|
Romy, your stance is that all a horn does is provide equalization. Is a horn the best way to provide equalization at the frequencies that are this thread's subject? I would think that a careful arrangement of direct radiators would avoid quite a lot ...
