Thanks for the recommendation JD, Ill take a look into it. I just listened to Wand's play of the 3rd with Cologne Radio and it is quite good! Pretty much what I was looking for. Its packaged in a set so I think this is really the only way to listen...

I have been getting into Bruckner Third lately and Ive been trying to find some decent recordings. Jochum Berlin version I have is a bit too hurried. I would prefer something more articulate and with a bit more finesse. Any suggestions?...

In my room, the bass I get without any sort of room treatment is adequate. If anything my room was just bright and considering I did not have any carpeting I had to do something about it. I find absorption to be detrimental and subtractive to sound...

"When I moved my system
and was just learning the new room and making changes, I was also
listening to more Bach than usual. I mostly wanted to play Partitas,
Inventions, Preludes, and Goldberg Variations. I was tu...

Doesnt sound like a problem where you have to make any drastic changes. Using horns for some time, what is apparent in my system is that it requires quite precise placement especially if you are demanding and have experienced things that few people ...

Ive attended a half dozen performances this year and I find the acoustics of this hall quite terrible. Apart from some of the orchestra's lackluster and sloppy performance at times, the sound generally doesnt seem to carry well in this hall. It sou...

Unfortunately, it looks like broadcasts of FM Classical music are going the way of dinosaurs, at least in terms of quality programming, and its listeners are becoming marginalized. ...

is terrible now that theyve been bought out and moved up the dial to 105.9. As if they didnt have enough problems with the technical aspects of their programming, I listened to the broadcast last night and then some of the overnight programming. I ...

is difficult. Ive been contemplating learning German for the last year or so for slightly different reasons but have not gone forward with it. I guess Im waiting for that moment when I just feel the need to learn, weighing the pros and cons. In an...

I cant believe this is happening and of all places in New York!! Things sure are getting darker around here. Ive been enjoying the live at the new york philharmonic and metropolitan opera series. I hope they will continue those programs under the ...

Makes me want to relocate to Boston! Wonder why we dont have such programming here in NYC. What programming we do have, is rarely live....

JP, that are funny settings. You source the clock from AES line but do lock it. I do not know at what rate you record but you’re A/D looks like output 88K, you card read 44K and it is not locked – a complete mess. Call ...

Sorry wrong pic. Well, I did for a while and I had some other configurations set that may have degraded the sound. After making some adjustments and setting it back to ASIO it seems like this retains the original sound better. Any further suggesti...

I wanted the Sound card to do as little as possible and leave everything to the external processors. Ive had them on before and it didnt improve the sound....

Ive tried various configurations but was unable to produce a recording that is similar to the fm transmission, although its not too terrible. I monitor the sound by using the same output of the Sansui that goes into the DAW. Replaying the file, I n...

On the sansui, I tried using ferrite on all the rear inputs. No change in noise level.
On the ad122, I wrapped a single large donut around the interconnects,
which are supposedly shielded, but no change in noise level. I tried
putting ferrite ...

In my experimentations, the da924 doesnt contribute much noise in my setup. Rather in my setup its the lavry ad122 thats the trouble maker. When all digital is turned off I have a very quiet background. Here are my observations:a) analog interconne...

Im very glad to hear that. I intend to follow up on this situation as well so they know that more people are interested in getting this situation under control. Also, Im not sure if its my non-modified tuner or not but on some of their "live to tap...

So, after the terrible FM transmission the week before, I sent them an email and received the following response:

A friend of mine is playing Rachmaninoff 3rd at Alice Tully Hall in Phila this week. For reference I listened to a CD by Argerich (Phillips label) and it wasnt very much to my liking. Anyone care to share their experience on some good performances?...

I dont know what you mean by helicopting, but I detected problems with the transmissions in later acts as if whatever machine they were feeding the signal to had problems. At certain points it sounded like they were fast forwarding tape-perhaps that...

So who owns the IP to FM air broadcasts? What are the Ramifications? Either the broadcasting channel or the artist typically owns the IP. No, you cannot record AND distribute. That is not public use or fair use. It doesnt matter that you dont profit ...

While waiting for my wavelab to arrive, I tried a number of free recording/playback software and each one sounded awful and sometimes created very strange results. One program made the music sound like it was recorded underwater...But one free progr...

There are enough great works out there that were poorly produced that it makes one think that revisiting the idea of an improving gismo might actually be a worthwhile endeavor. It is somewhat similar to improving one's playback and it would certainl...

I was looking into the power supply situation with my DAW and was wondering what viable options exist out there. Currently, I am using an internal 600w pc power and cooling unit. Apparently there arent many out there. One I found wa...

I guess you didnt have a chance to listen to the station broadcasting from the Met while in New York? Perhaps it is different. I get met broadcasts on satellite radio and the quality is horrendous but I guess thats a different story. Frankly, I...

This was the first time I listened to a live radio broadcast and it was quite an experience! Today on WQXR, New York, Wagner's Das Rheingold was conducted by James Levine. Im officially hooked. Every Saturday at 1pm I will be glued to my ...
