After seeing Paul's recent lament that classical records are getting harder and harder to find, I noted that I listen to only a small portion of my collection. I have my favorites, but I wondered about everyone else. What are your favorite performance...
The paranoia has long since set in: I am convinced that career record shoppers have already gotten to and picked over everything any place I am likely to think of to shop. I very rarely find anything really great.
Setting...
This is why audiophiles start playing their music in excitement whenever they change their system for the better.
I would say just whenever they change their systems, period. Often different is confused with better for ...

Agreed Paul,I do not collect and have no desire to collect old Shaded Dogs, etc. just because they are original pressings. I have a few mint 1S pressings, but I never listen to them, because I have no interest in the content. My approach is to go out...

Well,I did speak with Damian in Technical Support at APS, and he informs me that this effect is something that they have reproduced in their lab, but only with extremely efficient loudspeakers and certain power supply designs in the amplifier. With ...
Sounds to me like your switch mode transformer is doing the buzzing... There is always a turn on buzz, but just for about 10 seconds. The original one had a noisy fan also, to keep it from self igniting, perhaps that is your actual ...

Something very interesting happened today in my battle with the incessant buzz in the PP2000. No, it did not go away unfortunately, but I learned something new.Perhaps inspired by the recent discussions around the original pressings, I decided to spi...
If "all "points in space and time are connected", then would a temporal "gap" and/or its effects be unpredictable, or would there not as likely be a random(izing) effect?
Sorry for the generalization and skipping steps. Of...

Yes, it's true. The original pressing is always the best. There has never been an audiophile version that is an improvement to the Sound. They may have a quieter surface, fewer scratches, pops, and less overall noise, in fact the sounds may be better...
What surprises me however is why you have expressed an interest in the high power tubes? You are with horns and even you LF sections have over 100dB sensitivity. What will you do with 120W SET?
The subwoofer still ne...
There was a cool Russian-made tube GU-48... I do not think that it would be worse; in fact I think it might be even better…
Wait, Romy, you think a RUSSIAN product might be better? That is a surprise!:)Seriously t...

So, having thought about it, there are enough concerns about the Windfeld, I do not care to have yet another $3000 experiment. The moving coil-cantilever system is to me fundamentally flawed. The primary differences we hear seem to very frequently ...

In my case I have sat and thought quite some time about the exact characteristics of the stereo system, why it sounds a certain way, what are the weaknesses, what are the flaws, how can it be corrected, what compromises must be made, etc.I did reach ...

I have to echo Paul's sentiments. All I have heard about the hum issue in my PurePower unit is that "we are working on that" but nothing concrete or any explanations given...It would be great to hear something about it.Adrian...

Hi Paul,Well, that sounds very intriguing. Of course, the low end Decca cartridges like the Gold are exactly as you describe: infernal, insufferable, tempermental, occasionally wonderful. The new Decca Reference is quite different, i would say as i...

Hi Paul,Yes, I agree with everything you have said. I love the Well Tempered system because it is extremely simple and elegant, as you say, making it easy to work with. The older top of the line Decca London Jubilee has incredible presence but was no...

Paul,As you know I am also a believer in the hard tracing, and have likewise consistently rejected all MC cartridges due to the lack of realism and their inability to penetrate beyond the most superficial layers of audio splendor, though these they d...
Can you provide me with more adjectives and more descriptions what exactly you recognize was differently-wrong in the sound of playback with use of non-paired tubes?
The results I found were similar to what you had f...
I afraid it might be some vibrant harmonic discrepancies between the single-stage high Mu IDHT and DC-coupled DHT, or some kind ULF wobbling of my DC-coupled solution. I think it is something more fine then frequency respon...

Since both sides use different amplifiers, I think there may be incomplete correlation between the two sides in terms of coincidence of frequency response. Small changes in frequency response that vary with frequency and amplitude between the two sid...

This is exactly what I settled on in my SET amplifiers, so at least it gives some credence that we all seem to agree.Adrian...

Hard to generalize, since different cables should be made differently for different applications and different goals. If you tell me specifically what you are trying to do, I might be able to make some suggestions. For some general ideas, thoug...

After many unanswered e-mails, I got word from APS today, who said they have had a few customers with similar issues and that it seems to be system dependent. However, they also said that they were working on a way to fix this that they might have i...

There is a lot on this site about room treatments, if you take the time to look for it. For example remember this from a few years back? I suggest you browse the site for a...

Did you try adjusting the output impedance with the F120's? That may lead to some dullness in the sound.
Adrian, may I assume that if your unit was finally sorted out, then you would have said as much by now?
The issue is unresolved. The unit still emits a buzzing sound when it is plugged in. I have sent a few e-mails to APS ...
