You wrote (in a Beethoven thread): "If you for a first time came across to a 'better performances' then you might imagine how different might be experiences if you catch a 'better performances' live".I caught a London Philharmonic guest appearance in...

An apple juice toast for you, Romy! I wish you a bright, content loaded present and future....

enjoy_the_music wrote "but would it be easier to use a device like the old Audio Technica AT-666?"I had one of those, and it was horrible. You need to stop the platter, attach a hose, pump (manually if I remember correctly), detach the hose.Mine woul...

Hey Paul,I like the #1 a lot. I have a recording with Leonard Bernstein and the Concertgebouw orchestra. I hope I got that right..It starts off so light and cheerful. Building up, up, up and then there's this phenomenal depth and weight to it. Makes ...

Is it me, Mussorgsky or the Berliner Philharmoniker...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nQ6x31JVb0http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLFyqmpreFAThis is the only original version I have heard, and the first time I
got very very annoyed. After hearing it on...

I agree, with you both..I have a soft spot for Bartok, especially piano concertos, and piano+percussion.Sibelius might feel more significant, but the works I really know and like are from the 19th century.I have still heard very little by Richard Str...

Hi Collin,The first thing my eye caught was the speaker-listener-speaker triangle with 60 degree opening on the listener side.I think this is a very arbitrary number, and that you may find your ears will prefer a narrower angle.I very consistent...

I know zero about pressings, but the Kleiber DG has "signature series" written on it, not "Privilege". Same thing?Yes, I'd really like to catch something like that live. There will be a Beethoven Symphony #5 performed here in November. Conductor Andre...

I had to take a look at this thread... I've played the few Beethoven symphonies that I have today. one 5 and two 7.After 1 LP side of Böhm/Berlin I couldn't stand anymore and actually thought "what a stupid symphony!".I decided to give Carlos Kleiber...

Yes, I've been meaning to aquire such things for quite a while now.The biggest obstacle is that I think I need to format the drive and do a clean install of XP (or Vista).I did some audiophile trick with the system and since then XP doesn't acknowled...

I will have to get me a DAYTIME JOB again, so I can afford such things!Looking forward to playing with other things Audio for a while, particularly Vinyl. The sound is very pleasant....
|
I'm giving myself high fives today for nearly solving the broken piano sound in the room. :-)I'm not sure what fixed it, but I believe it to be a shelf half filled with records + two sofas and a carpet. There is room for improvement but it is a g...

Manuel: Our ceilings are almost equally low then. It's not a solution yet though, only some basis for experimenting. It might end up quite different....

Your boat looks quite tall, and full with records (killing reverberation at mid-to-high frequencies).I guess those sails are not doing so very much for reverberation at high frequencies as much as blocking disturbing early reflections... or...
|
New attempts at ..well... absorbing reflections from the low ceiling (and diffusing the very highest frequencies I suppose). This is not exactly the type of treatment I want, but it works for experimenting.I also don't think this is quite the same as...
|
I'm lyrical about the effects of a carpet-on-a-stick..... Much increased calm and reality. A lot more than I could have imagined!Makes me want to throw a proper ceiling-sailing party right away. :-)(lyrics: Black Sabbath)...
|
The sail ideas sound good, and I did play with it a little (before realizing the magnitude of this rooms acoustic problems). When you talk about diffusing effects, I think of reflections and reverberation that smears the sound so that it looses focus ...
|
I think about 99% of the problems with sound that I've complained about has been about slap echo.It took a lot to figure out that it could so completely shatter the sound! As long as there are no flutes or pianos in the music, it isn't that troubling,...

jd: Looks very ..cool! I can't wait to see some more photos!Romy wrote:"1) You might not need rubber gaskets at back chamber of your mid-bass horn. "-I was thinking the same. But perhaps rubber rings can be used to seal the back chamber to make ...

I too would like to watch and read about some audio results, especially from those who post here now and then. Here, the horns are back and I like the situation right now, but would not like to write more at this time.I know at least some of you have ...

Interesting. I wonder whether I actually did the Pussy- or Wilson positioning.I found 4 tiny hotspots around the whole room (for one specific vertical position). The boom areas were large (or perhaps there were many boom areas, close together?),...
|
Now that you mention it, I'm not experiencing any of those distortion problems with this setup. The "breaking glass" sound seems to appear mainly when I'm listening to bandwidth limited speakers though.I have also noticed that it's only my left ear th...

I THINK I managed to macro position by ear from to your advice. I did the tango with my bookshelf speakers and listened for evenness and bloom in the 80-500Hz area (filtered out the rest with EQ).Yellow marks the first hot spot I found, and then went...

Have you forgiven them for this model now? :-)...

jd: I'm celebrating the 1 year anniversary of my order for custom transformers from AE Europe. It suits me fine that they haven't delivered (because I don't have the $ now), but you may want to be ...less than overly optimistic.I don't know about...
Audio has sort of wrapper on a gift– can make it more attractive but has completely no affect to the substance of the gift.
I do often believe that I miss some content by hearing acoustic music through any random&nbs...

Does all Mussorgsky music, operas included, sound like this: http://webzoom.freewebs.com/joshrogan/NOSBUCKET.png ?I love it! :-)I've been without Mussorgsky until today, when I picked up the Pictures (never liked them before for some reason) and...

Just add a pair of small Ino Audio speakers and your LTS associated setup is done. :-)http://www.faktiskt.se/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=8994&list=fullSeriously, I'd pester the very reluctant manufacturer (former LTS head hon...
