As you already know Kodomo, I am a big fan of your room...it is beautiful. Those enormous speakers are so well integrated into the aesthetic that they are not the focal point of the warm and comfortable space. As Romy says, your room is not a "typi...

They certainly need more room to fit things. That is a lot of silver boxes!
Did they move you like the Klaus Speth horns that you previously wrote about? I personally can't see how they...

He looks innocent...I think you've got the wrong man. ...
|
Thanks for the kind words Romy. I am enjoying taking my time with this project and getting things just right. It sure helps when there is little development involved, just duplication more or less. Development may come later as I impose my exp...
Anthony, this is a very smart installation, IMO, because you have not "over-committed" to areas where you have work left to do, and areas you have committed to are flexible enough to allow adjustments you will likely need to do. ...

Well, the second Bass Cannon stack is up and in place.I have to say that the room feels better with the second stack up. There is now a symmetry and balance and I feel as though even at 8 each side they do not overly detract from the horn stacks. I...

Thanks for clarifying, and thanks for repeating the comment. The reason I post this stuff is to hopefully use the experience of others such as yourself that have more knowledge than I . The UBH is still on the lathe. I need to get them finished an...
Jorge, the topology that Anthony use very permits an alignment
of the individual bass sections. BTW, you as the person who invited this
topology, or at least the first one who use it in my circle, should know about
it. ...
|
It is very nice,
Anthony. From aesthetic prospective I would like to have it to be 2 sections less
as I feel that the bass sections overcomes horns visually but it is never too
many bass sections. You might want to start...
I guess you have listened to it but when I don't align the separate bass cabinets they fight each other and I get terrible bass.
You have mentioned this before Jorge and as a result it is one of the things that I am going t...
You decided to go with mA or are they mV against 1R resistors?
I prefer the second approach personally and I feel that I can moderate the quality
of resistor and I can’t moderate the quality of the milliampere meter coil....

I am making steady progress putting together my DSET amplifiers. Life and work gets in the way but I am chipping away at it, taking my time, not rushing, enjoying it. Wow, it is a lot of work and an enormous task for my first complete amplifier bui...

Hi Josh,I think it is all a matter of perspective. Personally, I would be very surprised if the key elements of the sound of that system that so impressed you is due to the Goto drivers. There are at least three more important things: that big roo...
|
Audio-hoarding is something that I am very thoughtful about. Admittedly I have quite a bit of stuff in storage but it ALL has to do with the current Macondo/DSET build and will soon all be in its place. I don't even own the speakers that I am liste...

Found this gem today. I am not familiar with the author but he writes like an angry old guy that has given up on polite conversation and just says it like he wants. Sometimes ones lack of BS is BS itself, and that seems to hold true with this fello...

My DSET amplifiers are starting to go together (slowly).Bias string and bleeder relays/resistors...The remainder of the filter caps. The middle floor goes on and the filter cap for the First Stages (6E5P/6E6P).Then the OPT's go in place and the shel...

Romy, thanks for taking the time to write a little about your history with Melquiades and diy. In some ways our stories are quite similar. My background is agriculture. My family breed cattle and grow crops and I am a large part in that ...

...you should do what they say
...haha...yes, I would at least experiment with sub 20Hz with those spare drivers. I could be in the same position myself if I build my array 8 drivers tall but only need let's say 6 a si...

Romy, that 6C33c is also only running one triode...you also have the option to wire up the other filament to increase power if required....
|
...it really does, I like it a lot. Personally, I would prefer to have the equipment rack somewhere else in the room but that is just me.
I don’t have any way of testing but the speaker is supposed to present a relatively flat 10ohm load.
This is an excellent tool for measuring the impedance load of your loudspeaker. I have one and use it all the time....

By the looks of the earlier photo, you will be bringing the LF and midbass channels quite a ways forward, perhaps 3 or 4 feet, but it is difficult to judge distance from the image. Will you have enough room for the midbass boxes to snuggle in beside...
hi Anthony Im not saying to use ribbons (really not) but why you’re afraid of high capacitance that kind of shortens the resistance in high frequencies while you’re not playing the woofers in those (>10k) ?It’s purely AC ...
Well, the wire paralleling is a common thing. This is where
the idea or Litz wire come from when they use many isolated wires for less them
skin depth. It doe serve theoretical purpose but not always server sonic purpose....
|
Romy, my weekend is excellent, truly excellent. I was sitting at the cricket watching my son play this morning and I had one of those "eureka" moments. I realised that when paralleled, the DC resistance of the voice coils (as measured) reduced and ...

Looking at that diagram, it seems as though Romy has made an artificial centre tap for a conventional filament transformer. You can either get a centre tapped transformer, make an artificial centre tap as shown or not bother with a centre tap at all...

...so I measured Vac at the Junction Box for a -12dB 120Hz sine. And I measured a DC-200Hz sweep in REW.Then I added 8m of 14AWG wire between the amp and the Junction Box and measured the same things.By adding the 8m of 14awg Vac at the Junction Box...

Just in case I loose the envelope this is written on, below are the SPL losses for a full 8 driver Bass Cannon stack with different gauge speaker wires modelled with 1R amp to speaker and 7R for each driver:18 awg = 2.16dB loss16 awg = 1.37dB loss10 ...

I think I am correct, but the problem is directly related to loudspeaker impedance. I did the first round of calculations by hand and when I got the results I searched the web for a calculator that someone has made so that I did not have to write it...
