I believe a year or so was announced that Riccardo Muti will lead the CSO. I have no specific love of hate to Riccardo Muti but as long he is not Daniel Barenboim who in my view destroyed CSO I very enthusiastic about Riccardo Muti. Today WGBH broadcasted the Chicago Symphony recording line-to tape of Riccardo Muti conducting Chicago in September of 2008. The program was:
Verdi: La Forza del Destino: Overture
Hindemith: Nobilissima Visione: Suite
Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74, "Pathetique"
Scriabin: Poem of Ecstasy, Op. 54
…sort of the Muti’s classical repertoire. I was listening the Chicago Symphony’s play and you know, I like what I heard. Nope it was not the “keeper” performance but it was “dally acceptable”, with Poem of Ecstasy being especially good. Riccardo Muti’s 5-years contract will kicked-in in 2010, let see what he will bring to the history.
