Mr. Norwitz tries to depart from one illusion going into other. I’m left unconvinced that his method “comparison by contrast” does lead us to accurate sound. More or less it sounds the same as improving the frequency range: more contrast leads to more accurate sound = wider frequency range leads to more contrast and consequently to more accurate sound. Also, his point starts from the base assumption:
“If you agree that the goal of your audio system should be to involve us emotionally, physiologically and intellectually with a musical performance, then we would like to suggest the following description for its objective: An ideal audio system should recreate an exact acoustical analog of the recorded program.”
I agree with the definition of the goal but how did he concluded that “objective”??? Since he acknowledges by himself that it is not possible to recreate an exact acoustical analog of the recorded program, then why to set this as an objective. I think it is misleading.
