I was actually thinking about keeping a small door at the end. It's not a bad idea, because I could open it in a particular direction and effectively use the space as a giant Helmholtz resonator, giving me another way to tune the sound if necessary.

It's an interesting idea, but it would only affect a very narrow frequency range, introducing some coloration. I don't know whether that coloration would be beneficial or not. I don't particularly want to experiment with it, but I also don't want to speculate without testing it.

In any case, I think what I have now is enough. I'm not looking for a new sound. I'm simply trying to recover the sound I used to have on the other side of the room.
