Post Subject: Even the heavily modded drives have the same laser calibrationPosted by rowuk on: 7/10/2026
I am not aware of anyone changing the actual Philips laser control boards. The modifications are generally after the laser head output. This means that recalibration should be a very easy and consistent procedure. This has also been my experience for non Philips drives. In an earlier, geekier life, I tracked the correction circuitry regularly to see if there were read problems that did not yet cause skipping. I then would recalibrate to keep error correction to an absolute minimum. I can't ever claim to have heard a difference, but I did feel better knowing that I did something measurable.Rerurn to Romy the Cat's Site
