Post Subject: Developing Promising DriversPosted by Paul S on: 11/12/2025
Wojtek, I thought the vintage and pro guys built shrines to the big JBL/Altec compression drivers? For many years I dreamed of owning 375s, but I could never afford them, and at some point I understood that crossovers and horns and ancillary equipment made or broke even these vaunted drivers. So many "pro" drivers are installed and tweaked with DSP these days, with particular applications in mind, often where "high directivity" is demanded. Perhaps some readers have found themselves sitting on-axis with a Be driver mounted on a very directive horn. Yikes! It certainly appears to me that at least part of the subject CDs/horns/mounts has to do with making them appear to be "worth the money". And it remains sadly true, it may well be that the "target market" for this sort of gear pretty well demands this sort of "product refinement". As for 2440 low-mid capabilities, most horns I hear are too small or too slow for their drivers the way those drivers are run, with predictable consequeces. I have long regarded 375/2440 as "most likely to succeed" at "lower frequencies", given proper horns and X/Os.

Hope you are still enjoying your own set-up, including Belkin S/PDIF.

Best regards,
Paul S
