I presently have three bass channels: Upperbass horn; Bass Cannons with 8x Scanspeak 10" per side; midbass with 3 x K15/40 per side. I have excellent response down to 30Hz or so all run by DSET. Bass is spectacular now that the midbass channel is in use. For some reason I am unable to drive 60Hz-120Hz from the front of the room regardless of position of the transducers and although the issue has been improved with room treatment it is still an issue. For this reason the Vitavox 15" midbass channel is behind the listening position at the back of the room and low passed at 56Hz but effectively fills in higher than that in conjunction with the Bass Cannons.
The effect is wonderful. When the volume gets up to concert levels you are swimming in the soundfield, not looking at one, and at least for now I love the effect. I can put my ear to the midbass channel and not be able to locate its output.
To get more output from the Bass Cannons they would need to be run from a different amplifier, most likely solid state, and I just don't want to go there given the quality of sound I presently have.
For the infra-bass I've selected what I think is a modern 18" driver, high excursion potential, rubber surround, dual voice coil and reasonably priced:

It should work sealed in the space I have available immediately behind the listening chair (physically time aligned) and really will only be used below 30Hz, so I am not sure how much tone there may be down there. Would be nice to have a cloth surround and paper cone driver to trial but nobody makes them any more. The new subs should be operational in the next week or so and I will see then if they fit my system as intended. If they are no good then for sure I would look into tone controls or swapping out the drivers for something else.
I've gone for AB amps that put out something like 400W into 4R. It is more or less a kit amp and I can easily modify it for line level filters, adjust its gain and input sensitivity et cetera. There is probably enough room in there to add a simple valve linestage if I wanted some harmonics added, but I doubt that would be required at the frequencies of interest.
