There is space for a set of automated vertical fabric blinds to be attached underneath the bookcase...it could even run the length of the entire space, including in front of the alcove. You can of course angle vertical blinds arbitrarily, and perhaps even introduce random angles with some minor modification, though of course that would make drawing them back trickier.
