Well, I would like to point out that the guys who made the amp about said absolutely nothing about the amp besides that fact that it uses GM100. The GM100 needs at least 10W to drive grid and how those 10W made I think would describe more the sound of the amp then the presence of the monster tube at output, particularly knowing that with 30W we know that tube severely underpowered.
 
Anyhow, the selection of "large" and "photogenic for Morons" GM100 was kind of strange, particularly if they went "over 100 of GM-70s" to make one working. GU80/81 are sub 1000V tubes and they perfectly give 100W with low output impedance.
 
Anyhow, I personally do not see any need for powerful tube SET amps unless you need LF. The MF drivers could be drive by a few watt amps and power you need only for bass. The Etheraudio folks do not use any "serious" bass, so their parley into 1000W tubes I find juts an attempt to scream that they exist rather than some kind of engineering or sonic exploration.
